What happens if Steam shuts down

As the title says what would happen if Valve went out of business and Steam shut down?

How would we play our games?

Is there any official stance from Valve themselves?

You don't need to login to play games? I remember it was asked before but forgot Gabe's reply.

But games do require activation from Steam servers.

How can they active games if there are no servers?

.. You wouldn't need to activate them.

None of those have ever posted a OFFICIAL stance from Valve.

But that would require some sort of update to disable the automatic activation feature. Again where has Valve said they would do that?

What happens, you ask?

You can only imagine a mere fraction of the horrors.

First, you would hear the screams. It will start far away, off in the horizon- so quiet that you would think that you were imagining it. But no! The agonizing wails will get closer, so close that it will shake the very foundation of the earth! Your whispered prayers will never be heard by God himself, and the dread of your existence will swell up within you, so much that you will instantly succumb yourself to the multitude of howling suffering... clawing your own eyes out with your toes... heaving your innards out of your mouth with the aid of anal fluids...

Only when you have finished shoving your molars into your ears would you realize that the true torments have yet to begin.

i bet if someone actually read the steam eula, it would state that you're likely up a creek without a paddle.

They will hit the "okay.jpeg"-button which unleashes all games from Steam's chains.
