If it fails to load or save any game saves, please upload them and respond with a link and I'll get on it. It backs up your save before it even begins to write to disk.

By using this you agree that your save games may be damaged and are liable for your own problems by using this program. It backs up your saves anyway...

If you have any requests, let me know. If you can tell me anything about the save format that I don't already know, let me know.

HOW TO USE:
  1. Close Dead Island.
  2. Start save game editor.
  3. Go to File -> Load (saves are at Steam\userdata\<accountId>\91310\remote\out\save\) .
  4. Locate your save game.
  5. Change what you like in the editor.
  6. File -> Save.
  7. File -> Steam Sync to re-sync save files so they will work in-game.
  8. ???
  9. If anything goes wrong, you can always just restore your backup that is automatically created.

Interesting. Possibly a cool fix for some with problems if it corrects corrupt saves?

Says save is corrupt, even though it isn't.

Could you upload the save so I can see why?

I had this problem with two of the saves, could you upload it to dropbox or something so we can get a better understanding of it?

I don't really need to. I had just created this save yesterday and didn't even make it out of the prologue.

Yeah, but it would help us understand what causes it to show as corrupt, mine were both chapter 2, yours will probably shed more light on it.

Also every save file is encrypted using a steam generated key which doesn't allow tampering of save files and because this is an online game and the save files are handled by steam if you do tamper with them you Risk losing your VAC status Be WARNED NOW for anyone else trying this, Use at your own risk!!!

It's not encrypted, it's GZipped to reduce file size. Your saves are your property and you're free to do whatever you'd like with them.

My attempts to hex edit my saves to find a way to respec and spend my points on better talents lead me to believe that the saves are encrypted because no 2 saves matched even after just a simple change the entire code would be different from an encryption key I would imagine.

In the past using this method I could easily find differences between saves and filter them out and make easy edits like level, experience, talent points. With Dead Island I was not able to do this.

I am not saying this is not a legit program but wonder what your doing differently that I was not able to do.

It's been known for several days that they're not encrypted, they're compressed with gzip, just open them in winrar or 7zip.
