Latest Update Broke Offline Mode (And/or other things)
Edit4: WORKAROUND DISCOVERED! MatorKaleen has figured out that you must log into steam using lowercase letters in your login ID or else offline mode will not work. Thankyou, MatorKaleen! So for some reason, the update changed it so that steam now hates uppercase letters in your login.
![]() Edit2: I have determined that the broken offline mode IS something to do with the update, in some way or another. I have verified this on two separate computers I have where offline worked fine before the update and then was broken immediately after applying the update. Edit3: Further information now suggests that the broken offline mode is in some way an account related issue which will first become noticeable following an update. If true, this means no amount of local troubleshooting can fix it. Valve would have to deploy a fix for the accounts that have been affected. If you are experiencing problems with offline mode and the normal troubleshooting steps DO fix it, then it's fairly safe to say that your account was not affected by this particular issue. I guess all the recent complaints about offline mode must have been beta users. Now that the beta changes have gone out to everyone as a normal update, restarting in offline mode no longer works, and when starting steam with no internet, I am no longer prompted to chose offline mode. Basically there's no way to use it now. EDIT: I AM NOT USING BETA. There is no more beta. Check for yourself by looking at the Steam update news. The beta changes were released to normal users via an update yesterday. This is exactly when the problem started, so I suspect that the update was responsible. Here is a screenshot of the error message. This is a serious issue as now losing internet will now always mean completely losing access to the entire library of steam games. This is unacceptable. I may be mistaken, but maybe it's fixed now? Offline mode is working perfectly for me.

It is definitely broke for me since the latest steam update today. I play offline when other family members are using the internet so hopefully it gets repaired soon or not much gaming for me.

Maybe it is a new "feature" and not broken?

Now I can't connect to steam at all. Just lost the ability to play all my steam-tied games, this is why I always didn't want steam.
Pity that even if you buy the dvd, it still requires the use of steam. Edit: Well at least I can get back in online mode now, still no offline mode though. Last edited by JiminyJickers: 09-22-2011 at 01:50 AM. |

Latest client update has buggered Steam entirely.
I know there are tons of threads on the various issues it is causing already, but this one is for all the issues related to the newest patch. Currently my state is such that,
-All of my games in library were greyed out. -Made backup of SteamApps folder -Clean reinstall of Steam -Moved SteamApps folder back to new install -Installed 8 games before Steam crashed. -The rest of my library now says '*game name*- download paused' -Offline mode works, but I can't play any of those 'downloading' games and I can't seem to fix them, and I was just on my way home to my parents for the long weekend, where I won't have any internet. :/ Other people are reporting extremely high CPU usage in the Library screen, offline mode not working, being unable to play games, etc. What I want to know is, this has been going on for a hours now, where is Steam with the official word for why they broke the platform and what's going on to fix it. It's probably not going to be taken note of until much later tonight, because that's only when Valve will wake up in America. :/ |

Yeah it's giving me this error message saying there's no login data stored on my computer. That's wrong of course. I've got it set to save my login details and it auto-logs me in when I'm not trying to use offline mode. The latest update definitely broke offline mode. It was working perfectly right up until the update installed and I've never had any issues with it before.
Just for kicks, I gave that a shot. As expected, it didn't work. |
