Yeah I know that the Offline Mode has given people [including myself] trouble ever since Steam's inception but this takes the cake!
I followed every procedure in the "Offline Setup" article... 1. Logged into Steam 2. Saved all of my account information by checking 'Remember Me' 3. Validated all of the games in my library to make sure there were no further updates available 4. Made sure "Don't save account credentials on this computer" was unchecked 5. Made sure "Run steam when computer starts' was checked 5. Set Steam to 'Offline Mode' once while connected to the internet to officially activate 'Offline Mode' 6. Played all of my games at least once in offline mode 7. Got back online and went to bed I got up today to see that Steam had not launched on startup. After starting the Steam client it updated itself, and out of curiosity I tested Offline Mode (while being connected to the internet, mind you) once again to be hit on the face with the following message... http://gametrailers.mtvnimages.com/i...bleOffline.PNG ...it felt like the virtual equivalent of a middle finger straight in my face since, as I said before, I checked "Remember me" and unchecked "Don't save account credentials..." to make sure nothing like this happened. I'm expecting my internet to be disabled for the next few weeks and thus all the hassle with offline mode. Help me out guys! UPDATE: AN UNOFFICIAL FIX/WORKAROUND FOR THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FOUND! ![]() Quote:

I think it's the new client update that is to blame...

Indeed it is, was working fine before the update. I only went online to see look for a demo and the client updated. As soon as I tried to go offline afterwards, no joy.
I just wish that Valve would say that they are aware of the problem and are looking into fixing it, but so far no statement whatsoever. Please guys, let us know the story. |

I'm going to try and delete everything in my Steam folder, except the games and the appropriate files, to see if it works...

Went ahead and did the "deleting everything but..." thing anyway--no dice.
![]() C'mon tech guys at Valve, of all the time in the world for 'Offline Mode' to crap out it HAD to be a week before I'm cut off of the internet?! Last edited by breadbitten: 09-22-2011 at 05:05 AM. |

Can't play any of my games. Yai for having a Steam library worth $1000 and not being able to use anything in it.

Despite not having a library THAT huge, I know how much it sucks...
This can't be the first time 'offline mode' has been broken completely though, right? UPDATE: It appears that the new 'client update' has affected almost every Steam user but not in the same way. while most are reporting that the 'offline mode' is completely nuked the rest are claiming that Steam is using up the majority of the CPU usage, with readings enormously high as 25% resulting in games being almost unplayable...! Duders at Valve, DO SOMETHING--FAST! Last edited by breadbitten: 09-23-2011 at 01:45 AM. Reason: Update |

It's not only breaking offline mode for a lot of us, people like me are getting their games auto-uninstalled, meaning we can't play in online mode either. The game files are all there, but Steam simply greys them out, and there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it.
