More Offline Mode problems

I have run the support knowledge base on trying to get offline mode to work to no avail. After following all those steps and hitting the go offline button I get this error:

'Offline Mode' is unavailable because there is no Steam login information stored on this computer.

I do not have the box checked to not save credentials on my computer. I find this especially odd because steam logs into my account automatically when I start it without having to put any information in.

I need help on this fast because I just bought this alienware laptop to play all my singleplayer games while I'm in Afghanistan and this is not comforting!

Here's something that you might try... although any given law-abiding user who has spent $$$ on Steam should *NOT* have to jump through hoops such as this <aarrgghh>!

1) Ensure that the "Do not save my credentials on this computer" is unchecked (you stated that you had already done that).

2) DISABLE "Steam Guard". Yeah... I know... but I've seen that cause a LOT of problems with offline mode <aarrggh>.

3) Ensure all games are updated, verfied, and their "Game Cache Files" defragmented.

4) While online, start each game once, and then exit the game.

5) Check that all games are set to "Do not automatically update this game".

6) Create a new text file using Windows Notepad, and save it to your main Steam installation folder (usually "C:\Program Files\Steam"); with the filename "Steam.cfg". ENSURE that the filename is "Steam.cfg" (and not whatever that Windows Notepad wants to save it as, such as "Steam.cfg.txt").

7) Add the following two lines to the new "Steam.cfg" file:

---cut here---
BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable
ForceOfflineMode=enable
---cut here---

8) Save the file.

...and a few other things that you can do as well that might help:

Start the Windows Registry Editor, and navigate to:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam]

Edit the following values like this:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam]
"OfflineAFS"=dword:00000001
"Offline"=dword:00000001
"AlreadyRetriedOfflineMode"=dword:00000001
"SkipStayOfflineDialog"=dword:00000001

...and...

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe]
"CheckingForUpdates"=dword:00000000
"UpdateAvailable"=dword:00000000
"UpdateBytesToDownload"=dword:00000000
"UpdateBytesDownloaded"=dword:00000000

Lastly, have a look at all of the:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Apps\###]

entries in the Windows Registry. Ensure that all of them that inlcude an:

"Installed"=dword:00000001

ALSO have an entry:

"EnableCacheLoading"=dword:00000000

("EnableCacheLoading" set to "0" ENSURES that Steam won't auto-update your games).

Anyhow, I hope this helps ya... it's definite B$ that a paying customer has to go through JUST TO PLAY THEIR SINGLE-PLAYER OFFLINE GAMES!

P.S. Stay safe in Afghanistan, and thanks for your service!

(EDIT) P.P.S. Almost forgot... ensure that "Steam Cloud Synchronization" is disabled as well!

Hi,

Since the latest Steam update and a reinstallation of steam, I got the same problem. Isn't there an easier solution, or do I really have to go through the list posted by Rich Nagel?

Login info must be saved on my computer, as it loggs in automatically. Still steam tells me that Offline mode is not available, because login info wouldn't be saved..

All of those steps are probably not needed, but that's what I've had the best luck with... although my "luck" has been "iffy" at best.
