Question on Delay

Hi I was just wondering, is there an estimate on how long delays take?

Like could a vac ban take more than 8 months to go through?

Don't worry about it OP.

Just enjoy what little time you have left, you'll be banned soon enough.

It's not really me the one who really wants to know, but thanks for the help I guess?

Yeah well me and a buddy were just looking into it, buddy is like telling me how he's and expert and all this stuff. Course I don't believe him, that's why I'm asking.

Sounds almost like your expert friend was trying to persuade you to start cheating.

On a hunch I guess it's no longer than 3 weeks from it's detection. Probably a lot less.

Its gotta be well over a year, assuming its ever detected

Subscription based cheats are not the same as free cheats

Not all cheats are created equal

A friend of mine cheated in MW2 and he was able to do it for a good half year before getting banned.

Although I don't think the cheat was detectable when he first started using it, but who knows. Personally I don't think the delay will last past 2 months.

For some reason I recall reading a figure of 2 weeks to 2 months. I don't exactly remember where I saw that, though.

This has been discussed many times, even caused flame wars in this very forum haha.

But I'm sure that it bans in waves, and sometimes you could be banned within a week because you hacked at the wrong time

The fastest ban i saw was 3 days, but it was a terrible public hack.

I suspect that it's no more than a month if the cheat is recorded in the VAC database, and maybe more than that if it's a newly created cheat that hasn't been used yet. This is all pure guestimation and inference, of course.

A not-very-commonly-known fact is that VAC bans are only partially automated. Infractions are reported to the VAC team (Normally automatically, in most games). Well designed cheats generally won't trigger it.

The VAC team would then decide based on the evidence, whether or not the infraction is a cheat (Blacklist it), or not (Whitelist it). There has been rumours that VAC bans are approved by the VAC team before they are enabled, hence the randomised time. However, I don't think this is true based on the fact that there was huge waves of false VAC bans before.

Cheats can also be reported to the VAC team, which allows them to reverse engineer and therefore blacklist said cheats, which is the more manual aspect of VAC. This is what is effective for better designed cheats, and is also the only way of cheats in Garry's Mod becoming VAC detected - due to the sheer number of game modifications that use generally-VAC'd methods. (Though I think Garry controls what is and isn't banned, instead of Valve's VAC team).

If only they could reverse engineer the private hacks for CS 1.6 and CS:S from that
Polish website. It's been years and they still aren't detected.

If VAC team could do that, I think there would be a massive ban wave.
