HOI2 Flickering Issue

A friend just bought HOI2 on my recommendation through Steam but cant play due to constant screen flicker.
Any ideas?

Darkest Hour: A Hearts of Iron Game

Screen flickers gravely from the start on any resolution setting, intolerable.

I should post the solution for you, but I feel Paradox should go fix their crap. So off to their tech support for you.
