Memoir '44

Quote:
Download and try the game out for free! When you first enroll and download the game, your account will be automatically credited with 50 Free Gold Ingots (Memoir ’44 in-game currency). That is enough for hours upon hours of free play in dozens of hard-fought battles. Once you start progressing through the ranks (typically by around the time you make it to First Lieutenant), you will be offered the opportunity to purchase a variety of Gold Ingot packages that fit all play styles and budgets, with some starting as low as $5, using your Steam Wallet.
When did Steam start putting Free trials under the F2P section? I know some of the stuff the F2P (MMO) Industry is capable of but I didn't think Valve would start collaborating with them.

I didn't notice anything that said I had to pay to progress yet.

It says it's free to try / pay to play on the store page. And on their website, it says you have to Pay to play.

It's in the Free to Play section. It shouldn't be. To play the game for free indefinitely is at the core of what "Free to Play" means.

Exactly. Most F2P games let you play and access most of the game for free but an optional cash shop lets you buy visual, convenience and sometimes power items.

I would say all F2P games let you play and access the game. Saying MOST gives Memoir '44 Online justification.

Just like Guild Wars.... Free for a certain time, then you need to pay

Sorry but what?

Guild wars is not free to play, you have to buy the game then it is free to play...you got your wires crossed there.

This is the kind of game I would buy to play. I will not pay for a bit here or a bit there.

Yep its deceptive as all heck, and it should be corrected by Steam asap, otherwise there is no point in having a free to play category, might as well just have put all the FTPs in the demo section, since that is basically what the FTP section has become now.

I thought it was FTP as well...and funny thing is I would have bought it and even had interest in the board game...but not now.

Also...is anyone else earning achievements and having them not show up here on Steam?

From the DOW (publisher) forums:

"All I can say is:

We were not trying to mislead anyone; we're sorry if we did; we are working with Valve to address this; While we don't know exactly when it will happen yet, the app will move from the Free to Play section to the Strategy section soon.

Eric Hautemont
CEO - Days of Wonder"

&

"... And one more thing: we've made the decision to put Pegasus Bridge and Juno Beach free (i.e. they will cost you no Gold Ingots going forward), effective immediately. This way, you can train new Cadets to your heart's content on these 2 scenarios, without having to worry about it taking from your stash of Gold Ingots.

Thank you again for making the Memoir '44 community such a good one!

Eric
"

The game with 2 free scenarios would now (IMO) qualify as labeled f2p. 2 scenarios free to play unlimited.. pay for other scenarios.
