Arrow Official OVERKILL Q & A

Hi, OVERKILL Software here,

We locked the old Q & A thread and opened this one. As before, we reserve the right not to answer any question for any reason without stating the reason.

Here are the rules for this thread:

1. Only questions are allowed. Any post not containing at least one serious (and at least remotely polite) question will be deleted (yeah that includes pop-talk posts encouraging OVERKILL, even if we enjoy that stuff).

2. No questions of impatience similar to "why don't you answer my question?"

3. Don't repeat questions that have already been asked (whether it is by you or by others).

Also, feel free to follow us on Twitter: @overkill_tm

What commands can be given to hostages? is it possible to use them as shields should the need arise? And how many hostages are needed to trade in for a player?

look forward to playing the game!

To make it streamlined and intuitive, there is one single button for interacting with NPCs and items (drills, computer terminals, etc.) The button is context sensitive so what happens when you push it is different depending on what you're facing atm.

If you're facing a civilian and push that button, you'll shout at him/her to throw himself/herself to the ground.

If you're facing a civilian that is already lying on the ground, you'll shout at him/her to stay on the ground.

The phrasing of the command will be different (plural) if there are more than one civilian in front of you. Also, during police assaults the voice of your character will change so that he's shouting and cursing more to reflect the intensity and general panic during the ongoing firefight (we're pretty proud about that part of the sound design).

You only need to release one hostage to get a teammate out of custody. The police will decide which of your hostages you need to release, in case you have more than one.

You walk up to a piece of furniture and crouch.

There is no "snap-to-cover" mechanic as we're not big fans of that stuff. Payday is very classic and straight-forward in terms of the basic mechanics.

Is there any chance Custom Content may be possible, such as being able to costumise masks or suits ?

Have any plans regarding DLC and costs been made? Mainly I want to know if it will be a mix of free and pay for, or will it be only pay DLC? (I do not live in a fantasy land and expect everything to be free, ESPECIALLY on a very affordable title like your game).

Yep, we're already working on interchangeable masks!

We don't know at this point whether or not the DLC will be free, and how much it will cost if there's a fee.

Great move!

Any chance the tougher heists can be played at lower difficulty levels after completion?
My brothers are more casual gamers, and might not enjoy OVERKILL mode

As it is now, the lowest difficulty level at which you can play the Slaughterhouse and Diamond Heist scenarios is "hard". No scenario requires you to play on "Overkill" - that would be mean.

Keep in mind that as you play the game, not only do you become more skilled as an individual, but you get more weapons and perks in the game that make you more capable to take on the more difficult heists. Even "casual" players can take on Slaughterhouse and complete it after a while.
