Pick whatever you have the most fun with. Doesn't matter if it's an acoustic or electric. I personaly really wanted to get an electric guitar (I played acoustic for a few years first) but when I finally bought one, I never really got into it.

I'd recommend learning some Ac / Dc songs, since they mostly use chords and are quite simple and sound good even on acoustics.

I hear soaking your fingers in salt water will help build your calluses faster. Has anyone done this here? Also, you really can rock out on an acoustic.
