Before You Spend $50

Just some facts about Stronghold 3:

1) The single player consists SOLELY of one campaign. There are no skirmishes, there is no Kingmaker, etc. You get one linear campaign, and that is it, period.

2) There are only 4 multiplayer maps. Players can however, make more maps themselves for multiplayer with the editor.

3) Peasants with sticks can tear down the strongest walls in the game. Spearmen can kill archers that are posted in towers.

4) The largest maps are TINY, significantly smaller than Stronghold 2, and due to the increased space requirements for all buildings, you cannot build a castle around your "city".

If none of these things bother you, you may enjoy the game. If some of these things sound like they would ruin the game for you, wait to see if the game is patched to fix these things some months down the road, or it goes on sale for $10-20.

You can't just do quick matches verse bots in a map?

Thanks for the info.

Yep, avoid the game if you can. Perhaps go back and play another round of stronghold 1 until the urge to play a castle game passes... this one's a severe disappointment I am very sorry to say.

That is correct, there are no skirmishes, there are no bots. You play the pre-scripted campaign only, and then you can play vs other real people only, on the 4 small maps. (players can make new maps, but they will also be very small size)

I am also a Stronghold fan from the very 1st game and this is very dissapointing to me too. I don't say anything bad about Firefly and I hope they improve Stronghold 3, but at the same time, everyone should know what they are paying $50 for and make a informed purchase decision.

He is correct there is only campaign for single player, however on the official forums someone said it had been confirmed they will be adding kingmaker mode via patch. can't confirm if this is true but just cannot see how a game like stronghold would only have a campaign mode.

I'm disappointed. I haven't bought the game but, being a stronghold 1 fan, I was looking forward to it.
I read and look around every day now to see feedback from players and a big majority of them agrees that the game is a big fail.
I have to admit that I'm not surprised because if you take a look at the trailers and the screenshots from the previous months, you could have guessed the fail.

I'm just wondering how much money they have done (remember 40-50eur per copy) just because they made ages ago a great game called "stronghold".

I'm sorry firefly. I go back to play anno 1404.

Does this mean we get a "basic game" and then have to pay for tons of DLC in the coming months ?

I was really excited about this game until now.
Oh well thats $50 saved.
Thanks again.

Did the devs even ask the fans what they wanted in this version?

They did, and they said, "Okay, we'll make it more like Stronghold 1, but also combine it with the best parts of Stronghold 2!" So they spent years in development, touted their realistic, super-cool physics, realized they spent all their time incorporating the least necessary aspect of the game, said the game was finished, then charged us $50 for a beta.
