Steam disappears after logging in [Solved]

I recently got a new harddrive and reinstalled Windows along with all that fun stuff. I installed Steam properly first, and it was running fine. After I copied over my old steamapps folder though, Steam no longer runs.

I type my info, hit log in, it says 'connecting steam account' and then it disappears. Process is gone too and no icon in the system tray.

I've tried deleting ClientRegistry.blob but that didn't fix it.

I tried renaming my new steamapps folder to Xsteamapps folder and Steam generated a new one and launched fine. Anyone have an idea why?

Edit: I tried copying the winui.gcf and sourceinit.gcf from the newly generated steamapps folder into my old copied one and now Steam is running fine.
