Red face This is to do with Driver San Francisco

Hi all, as I'm new here and to this sort of gaming.
And as I do not seem to be aloud to post in the Driver San Francisco forum.
I thought I would post here.
I have been in touch with the support team about this, 6 times, sadly, the support team have not be in touch with me.
My son Paid and DL this game only to find it would not work on his system. So, being a good dad, I installed onto mine. Which falls in line with the spec given for Driver San Francisco .
1stly, what a pig of a game it is. Not happy spending £29.99 on something so hungry. You need a Cray to run this.
OK, that over. It work OK, not great, just OK on my system. BUT. Game Pad controls. Right stick can be set for forward and back. Left stick. NO hope. Nothing for steering. You have to use the KB. WHY? You have the game pad in your had to drive. So, stands to reason that the two sticks are for steering, Left and Right and for forward, break, back? Simple.
One hand on the game pad, the other on the KB, silly!
So, is there a way of setting up the GP to do the steering?
Thanks for reading. Next stage Twitter and FB. Or just give me my money back and I ditch the game.
As you can see, I’m not a happy bunny. Support have all this, but have never replied to any of my questions. 6 over the past week.

Bad news, it's your sons fault he chose to buy a game that his rig wasn't up to specs for. That's what the store page is for. It lists the minimum and recommended specs. Good news is he has the game and will be able to play it one day when he upgrades his rig. Sadly if you want a guarantee a game will run buy a console. PC gaming will always involve some fiddling around because there are so many configurations and they can't possibly test them all. Not in our life time.

Anyway to the problem at hand. Have you verified your game cache? Could be some files messed up. R-click on the game in your library, choose properties, local files, verify integrity of game cache.

What kind of gamepad are you trying to use.

Supported Peripherals:Windows-compliant keyboard, mouse, wired and wireless X360 controller, Logitech Momo Racing Force Feedback steering wheel, Thrustmaster Rally GT Force Feedback Pro Clutch Edition steering wheel, Thrustmaster Ferrari GT 2-in-1 Force Feedback steering wheel, Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience 3-in-1 steering wheel, Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 Force Feedback steering wheel, Thrustmaster Universal Challenge 5-in-1 steering wheel.
Not seeing any third party gamepads supported though the 3rd party 360 ones should work.

FYI these user forums are not support. I do not work for support. I'm just a fellow gamer trying to help out. I know your are upset but please don't take it out on me.

Whose support did you contact because Steam can't do a thing about the game not supporting what the developer and Publishers claimed it did. Have you contacted the fine people at Ubi-Soft. Have they answered you or are they giving you the run around?

being upset already, are you sure all your drivers are up to date. Have you properly configured the wheel. I know with modern games my MOMO requires I configure through the Logitch profiler to get it to work properly for me at least. In the old days, I pluged my wheel in, the PC recognized it. I started the game. The game noticed my wheel or had a generic wheel profile I could rebind. I rebound the keys to my liking and raced.

You can contact Steam and ask for a refund. Doubtful since the game has been installed and it playable by others. can't hurt to ask though.

Ouch ,well yes that would upset me as well. Can you take the wheel back? I know I never was able to get my MOMO to play Grid acceptably.

Did you check out the link epsylon_Z1 gave you on the Ubi forums?

Talk about being Hijacked.

It matters not what game pad one uses. There is nothing in the setting for game pad to set steering.
Other stuff I check out in the morning.

That's BS son. How can a child of 14 know what his PC is doing, Not ever 14 year old has a degree in computer science. He asks DAD, but he did not bother this time. If the guys who wrote this SW thought about it. They would give you a demo SW package to test on your PC. If it worked, great, you buy, if not, then you do not buy. It's not rocket Science. 10 day Trial. Most SW houses do this. And...for £29.99, I would expect the SW to be DL to my system, then run to install. that way I have a copy. Not in install from a server. Very Inefficient way of going about it.

This is a PC, 8Meg of RAM 4 core CPU, GP Logitech. But that is nither here nor there.
Go to setting, driving, and in game pag, you find setting for Steering. There are non.

Thanks for reading

The controller does matter. I just tried two different controllers.
The first one was a Tevion brand (quite old, had an extra cable to plug into a PS2) and it was hopeless. Right analog stick moved forward and back, but vehicles hardly moved, and L2 + R2 allowed me to move around the map in shift mode.
The second controller is a Logitech controller. R1 + L1 moved me around the map, left analog stick was my acceleration and brake and right analog stick was steering.
I was unable to remap any of the controls as the game could not detect anything I pressed when prompted to.
I would suggest you follow Maddogge's advice and get an Xbox360 controller, or any other officially supported controller.

Is it this wheel? This is what I have and it nearly works perfectly. Some of the controls won't stay mapped when I leave the game, and it has difficulty picking up the directional buttons, but other than that, it's fine.

Thanks for the reply Hunter. But I still get nothing within the Settings, Gamp pad to set up for steering I have a Logitech Duel action GP BTW. Every button works, does what I want. apart from the steering. and as there 'SEEMS' to be nothing within setting to set that. I scratch my head.

Logitech dual action? That's the same one as mine.

You are correct that there's no option to re-configure steering, but we both have the same controller and there should be no difference.

Have you tried turning the "MODE" button off? When this is on, steering is done from the directional pad instead of the left analog stick.

Just to confirm that the controllers are the same, here's a list of my default controls.

Button 1 - Boost
Button 2 - Handbrake
Button 3 - Shift
Button 4 - Expand map
Button 5 - Look left
Button 6 - Look right
Button 7 - Change camera
Button 8 - Horn
Button 9 - Look back
Button 10 - Hint
Directional pad - Music
Left analog stick - Steer
Right analog stick - Accelerate, brake, reverse

Edit:
A quick google image search shows various gamepads under the same name. This is the gamepad I have

I've been playing it with an Xbox 360 Wireless pad, and although I didn't check to see if I can remap, it does let me steer with the left pad and the shoulder triggers are analog brake/gas.

Just an FYI, not particularly helpful.
