Strange frame rates on GTA 4

Before when I used to pirate everything, I played GTA 4 on version 1.01 or 1.02. I had no frame rate problems back then. But now on the newest version, it's not as smooth as before. Was the older version more smooth?

Unfortunately you're correct. But of course Steam installs/auto-updates GTA4 to 1.07

Look for threads on here that talk about reverting Steam version back to 1.04, which is a more stable version and also what most mods require. Versions earlier then 1.04 were smooth, but had graphical errors and also instability issues. This is what makes 1.04 pretty much the better version all around.

I saw changelogs of EFLC patches having more performance fixes, why aren't they included in vanilla version?

I noticed that if I have tabed out even when not in the graphics engine then tab back in the framerate will be like 10 FPS lower than if I have started it up fresh and clean.
