There'll never be a Skirmish mode

Just to be clear there's an offical statement about this:

Quote:
We will look into releasing more maps in the future. We have released a complete map editor for players to build there own maps. The game was never designed to have Skirmish mode, it won't be coming. I don't want to sugar coat it but we will be adding new features in the coming patches.

That's what I call "listening to feedback"...

Doesn't seem like a smart move for them to rule it out completely. Even if it was paid DLC, as sour of a taste as that would leave in my mouth, it wouldn't be as sour as not having it at all.

I was thinking along those very lines. Although, I'd be perfectly fine with bug free MP.

This is one of the many reasons why I will be asking for a refund. Stronghold 3 is glorified vaporware.

The skirmish on decent sized maps is half the game of stronghold,I don't even like campaign that much.

Firefly dropped the ball and dropped it hard!

Even if they did agree to add Skirmish, at this point it might be too late to code any AI into the game. Assuming they did agree, it would be an incredible amount of time before any of it would be implemented, and even then a virtual eternity before it's working properly.

I'm learning quickly that the obvious business model for tactical games is to force players to accept that other humans will now have to be their AIs for skirmish games. It's a major cost cutting development and, like most other chicanery, it's probably here to stay. For those of us who despise multiplayer gaming,it's just another kick in the sack. BUt it does appear to be here to stay.

I'm missing something, does "skirmish" mean if I'm in freeplay mode, I can't decide to have the enemy attack?

F1 sure isn't bringing the enemies on.

Thanks.

In the original Stronghold F1 used to let you have the AI run a siege of your stronghold that you'd built in freebuild mode. Though in practice the AI often stood around for ages and wasn't that brilliant at coordinated sieges (so you gave them several armies and let them rip at the walls ).

In Crusaders, Stronghold 2 and Legends you got a dedicated skirmish mode where the AI controlled its own castle just like the player, on teh same map and worked to defeat the player.
It seems that they've gone back to the original Stronghold model and I'll assume that F1 attacks have either been moved to another key or will appear in a patch (it would be strange of them to keep it removed).

As for skirmish its gone - and chances are if they've not worked on a dedicated AI for the game they simply won't; this might reflect a change in their direction or a simple fact that they had a more limitied than ideal budget or even not the staff on site to give proper due to a dedicated AI for this kind of mode.

I could be wrong buy, Skirmish was really part of the stronghold crusader, with the 50 skirmish maps I believe. That was a seperate game. In Another release of Stronghold 3, like stronghold 3 crusader, they would then release the 50 skirmish maps.

Does this make any sense?

There will never be a skirmish? Then there will never be a purchase by me from this company ever again. By FF, it was a good run while it lasted. Hope you find work outside of game design because you're going to be shuttered from this failure.

It would, but that would only happen if the developers got enough funds to work toward such a game - certainly they could get more of their money out of re-using the same engine; however I think first they've a lot of ground to cover getting this first game up and running smooth.,

Whatever FF

I just think it is such a bunch of garbage that they posted here about listening to our concerns, wtf were you doing all this time. I am pretty sure one of the articles i read prior to this release was how they are making larger maps(not) and incorporating ideas from all the input they had from fans over the years. whatever! you people at FF are so full of crap, its oozing out of every crevice of that turd game you released and ripped all of off on. you should all go to jail for defrauding people of their money.
