Is DMC3 the same infamous pc port or has it been fixed?

Issues the retail DMC3 had:

Resolution locked to 800x600
No graphics options
Crappy controls

Is the DMC3 on steam actually playable?

From what I've read here it's the same as my retail version.
My version didn't suffer any problems with regards to resolution locking. I played through it at 1600x1200. No widescreen, but at least it's not 800x600.
The gamepad takes effort to set up (this thread helps if you're using a 360 pad), but it's alright after you get past that. Under no circumstances should you try to play this with a keyboard. I've read that people finished it that way, but I can't imagine it would be comfortable.

So, if this is indeed the same as mine:
-No low resolution lock (no widescreen either though)
-No graphics options
-Crappy controls? Debatable. Fine once you get them working on a gamepad, don't even try with a keyboard.

Also, there's a specific weapon in the game that reliably crashes the whole game to desktop when fired, but you don't need it.

I still loved it and finished it though.

Don't have the game but you should be able to use xpadder and bind 2 keys to the triggers.

I'd stick with DMC4. DMC3 has no widescreen support. Given that the camera angle can make it so its hard to see at times, it becomes even more of a problem when things are smashed relative to your monitor. DMC4 has widescreen support, also looks alot better.

Yup, game is broken.

It has a fundamental problem with it's sound files that causes the game to be unable to maintain 60fps and with a DMC game 60fps is a must.

Controller setup is a nightmare,no vsync, effects from the PS2 version are missing.

DMC4 PC though is perfect.

they are actually re-releasing it on consoles in HD. hoping that would ever fix the PC version. about the 2 triggers. it works on a regular ps2 controller.

Capcom OWES us to release proper dmc 3 on pc. Only Vergils needs better/more moves. I'm very offended by Capcom if they don't...

definitely. but, it was ported by ubisoft. so, unless capcom are planning to release for PC as well. don't expect a fix for it any soon.

the game is broken yes. but, not unplayble. still your better off with the console version.

Oh man, this talk of HD remakes makes me giddy. DMC3 was and still is (although I don't have a PS2 anymore) one of my top lifetime games. I can only imagine playing DMC3 in full 1920x1200 @ 60fps with native 360 controller support. Makes me all tingly just thinking about it!

It was actually ported by a Japanese company called Sourcenext, I believe Ubisoft were only distributors.

The HD edition on 360/PS3 will probably only run @ 720p.

Capcom should put RE4 HD and DMC HD on PC to make up for these bad ports but I am not confident that will ever happen.

game ain't that of bad port poeple claim it to be IMO.

Controls aren't that much of a deal, and after I started playing this with a gamepad, I found it way easier to play with keyboard.
on keyboard you don't have to press every button with your thumb, but can use the whole hand.
WADS for movement and JIKL for action works just fine.
Graphics seem ok to me.

I found that combination of keys very enjoyable after 20 minutes of gameplay.
