Keybinding suggestions?

I haven't played any rhythm games before, and I'm having trouble finding a natural key binding that lets me hit all four directions with my left hand without moving my fingers. Best I've managed is Z, D, F, B, but I find my fingers get 'confused' between D and F because I'm so used to WASD. Does anyone happen to have any suggestions?

Thanks!
M

I wasn't asking for a feature... cf. the Z, D, F, B comment above.

I don't think you'll be able to overcome your confusion issues without practice...I can't think of a more efficient setup than the one you're using. I think (and maybe someone else can be more helpful) you'll either have to use your WASD instincts, or try to train yourself out of it by practicing with the ZDFB.

I don't pay attention to the direction of the arrows at all. No reason you should get confused with a setup like that if you don't look at the direction of the arros. Using my right-hand, I just do 456+ on the keypad. Added benefit of being able to relax my pinkie a bit, because of the larger + key

Hm... I would recommend index and middle finger of each hand for the 4 arrows, and them thumbs and small fingers to activate spells, rotate the wheel, and switch panels.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. It's got to be controllable using mainly my left hand (due to RSI), so I think I'll stick with ZDFB. It would probably be less confusing if I hadn't spent a while using the D-pad instead -- that really got the 'up, down, left, right' meanings burned into my brain!

Comming in as a stepmania fan, I prefer using the numberpads 8, 4, 6, 2 keys and using the 7 and 9 keys to cycle charts.

I'd always use WASD plus Q and E to cycle pads, but that's the original set I guess. Eventually, I'd use the arrows. Feeling like a noobie, but welp, gotta do what you gotta do.

Also, I kinda remember from the tutorials being forced to hit two arrows the sime time just by hitting one with WASD and another one with the arrows. Eventually I tried to hit the two arrows set with only one "key setup" and it worked. How is it supposed to work, after all?

@Nitronumber9,

isn't it hard to hit 8 and 2 at the same time?

Yeah, that messed up my game in the beginning. I started wondering why they had made it like that, and when I tried to just use the same key group it turned out to be false. Strange, that.

They also failed to mention that you can shift fields with the mouse buttons. I've seen no key bindings for that, either, so I guess it's a secret or something?

Not really, Use the middle finger to tap 8 and the ring finger to tap two while having spells on the insert block of keys, for the accuracy scroll challenges/times of need, you can use two hands for stopping arrows.

The only problem I have currently is that I keep accidentally changing charts, and I have to semi memorize my spell locations but otherwise, its a decent setup, give it a try, see how it does you.

Do you really need a keyboard? I'm planning on a round using an XBox controller, but I haven't done it yet.

Z,D,F,B suddenly clicked after a bit of playing, and I got out about five spells I'd been having real trouble with!

ajs410: using the controller is probably okay if you can use your right hand on the four buttons as well as (or instead of) the d-pad. I had to use just my left hand on the D pad, and that was fine in the early levels but I found I couldn't keep up with some of the faster songs.

Spell settings won't affect the gameplay that much but I like to use 1,2,3,4,R and F. Tried 3 for each hand first but it ended up being easier for me to use only left. (Chose R/F instead of 5/6 obviously because the letters are closer ^^)
