This fix increases amount of ping bars and their intervals, giving you a more accurate visual representation of connection strength.
1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 3\players2 2. Open config_mp.cfg with notepad 3. Change the following lines: Quote:

I did that on day one but you will be unable to determine who the host is as they have masked that.

this settings just shows that there is noone with a ping that is below 100 ms. in any match.
it just modifies the amount of ping between the bars and adds some more bars to make it more precise. you cannot figure out who is hosting cause the host has a bad connection too some way. if i'm not mistaken it shoul dbe something like: 1 bar = more than 160 ping 2 bars = more than 140 3 bars = more than 120 etc 10 bars should be around 20 ping... |

oh and the 4 original bars have intervals of 100 ms...
so if you have 3 bars you should have more than 100 ping wich can't really be considered good anyway. Last edited by littlefrank: 11-11-2011 at 06:11 PM. |

So anything more than 5 bars is good, anything less is bad.

I find 5 and 50 to be most useful showing of optimal ranges. At 50ms that is pretty much perfect connection. At 250+ - total garbage .

I am really wanting to do this. But can altering your player2 config files get you banned in any way?

Wow this is actually really helpful. Usually 3 bar isn't that bad but i was stuttering sometimes. After this change I found I was still 3 bar....out of 10 which makes more sense considering the in-game lag.

It's what I used in MW2. This is pretty much the same thing as always. I'm just disappointed that I have to do it again rather than have something actually useful like a real number.

Yeah, I'd still prefer numbers over bars as well. My guess is that the poorly implemented ping bars are just there to mask ridiculously high pings. 3 green bars on default = 100-200 ping which is by no means a solid connection. People would have been more up in arms about the matchmaking system if they used numerical values like all the other games ever made.
