Skyrim crashes every 20-30 minutes while playing through Steam
I've been playing all weekend and Skyrim just keeps crashing to desktop (without any errors)every 20-30 minutes. It has crashed over 40 times this weekend and it's going really annoying. At the moment I'm just running the .exe file and it doesn't seem to crash (for now).
Is there anyone that knows how to fix this? (I've tried that sound fix, but that didn't change anything. Neither did changing my graphic setting etc.) Any help will be appreciated. Last edited by __Ryuzaki: 11-13-2011 at 11:38 AM. |

Also having this problem. Also, the sound fix didnt work. I tried every possible sound setting and none affected my crash rate. Having about the same amount of (very annoying) crashes as the OP.

Since this seems to be Steam related (as I said, I don't get these crashed when I just run the .exe file) I guess we'll have to wait for a Steam update. But not everyone is having these problems, so I'm guessing it might not be soon (if ever)...
Perhaps someone from Valve could help us out? |

I have the exact same problem. It's hugely annoying and I don't really want to play it without steam because I'm a bit of an achievement junkie. This really sucks. Hasn't anyone come up with a solution yet?
BTW, this topic has almost 700 views, I think were dealing with some googlers which means more people suffer this problem. Last edited by Kingma7: 01-03-2012 at 06:46 AM. |

I don't think this is a DDR2 memory related issue.
I have not had any such crashes since the 1.3.10 patch. System Q6600 4GB DDR2 HD 4850 I do remember pre-1.3.10 patch I was getting crashes like whats mentioned here and I would see steam cloud sync next to Skyrim in the Steam Library. But. It could also be related to the CTD in specific locations which more and more people are reaching when they get a certain amount of hours in game. |

try going into bios and limiting your cpu to 2 cores and turning any hyperthreading off.

Radeon 6870 I was those "driver not responding" messages from windows and some random CTD on skyrim and withcher 2 with catalyst 11.12. I just installed the 12.1 beta version, gonna try the game later. |

The only thing that fixed my ctd problems was setting my textures to medium. No crashes in two weeks from having one every 40 min to an hour before.

I came to this conclusion yesterday. It really solved the problem. Had no more crashes since I turned it back to medium. I know it's not how we want to play our game but it's a temporary fix until bethesda fixes this. Thx Cadfael! |
