I think for the next update there should be a section to search for the account name and it would show you the only person with the account name and the one they just added when you search for the account name and also get ppl with the name. Because alot of ppl dont like the new way including me.

You can search for account names now, in the existing UI. There's a problem with accounts that have selected a closed privacy option not being returned, but I should be able to fix that in a week or two.

i searched for my other acc name and i see like 4 when i should only see 1 which is the acc name

There are matches on items other than the account name. Each match explains what caused the match. This is all by design so the behavior is both more useful and more clear.

MikeBlaszczak to be honest, I'm not against the new way. But you guys should be developing/testing first internally before it gets launched online. People like me judge you guys quickly =D but it would be great to see it fixed and working. Hope searching by email works too.

It appears searching by Email address actually does work. Below is what it says in Add a Friend.

Because the email and username still does not work. I've tried, my friends tried and it doesn't work. I've used hotmail,gmail and some other email. Also searching from username still fails me.

OMG the new add a friends function is a horrible idea. Now I can't see who I last played with and add them? WTF i don't remember peoples name with all their wacky ♥♥♥ symbols and ♥♥♥♥. *Clinches fist* this is the most frustrating thing ever. Valve you should really reconsider changing it back to the old way because the new add a friend system limits the user from adding people they like to play with quick and easy. Even xbox and ps3 have a recent players list function for this purpose. This is just bogus and out right stupid. I feel like kick someone in the face right now over this. *Glares at Valve*

You can still view who you've recently played with, by going to View -> Players.

Email doesn't work because we haven't implemented it yet. Searching by username works, but includes privacy settings. I'm working on removing that filtering. This situation doesn't mean that the feature wasn't tested; it just means that the design isn't to your personal liking.

Fact is, searching by user name is already fixed; when I search for "sonic94800", I get one result leading to this account.

One great thing about Valve is that we listen to customer feedback and iterate -- we make changes and apply fixes to the client and website constantly.

After not being able to search for my friend by email, username or account name I finally got her profile url (which also doesn't return a result if searched) and upon trying to add her I got the error "could not invite this friend". She gets the same error when trying to add me.

Without any details, it's not possible to investigate your complaint. As a guess: were you not logged in?
