Absolutely no warnings at all and the game crashes to desktop with no reason why or error message. It's as if I have been clicking alt+f4, and the crashes are random and have no pattern it seems like. My directX is up to date and specs surpase recommended requirments, I am running the game on ultra with 60+ FPS. I have even went ahead and tried the sound fix to a diffrent quality of bit and HZ combination. Any Help would be awesome because saving every 5 mins is dirving me crazy and sometimes I forget losing a bunch of time spent playing.
general specs of Computer: i7 950 Nvida GTX 560 TI 6gb of Ram win 7 64bit |

that makes no sense because the 64bit OS allows the use of over 4gb of ram.

Setting the sound to 24 bit 44100 kHz may also do it. I've done a few changes and ever since I haven't had a single crash:
- changed the sound settings in win control panel to above - upped the amount of grids to load, increased memory available - applied LAA (large address awareness) Not a single crash ever since, and I used to crash every half hour or so. |

So i guess at some point it will start to crash for a lot of people again, if not for everyone eventhough they used the patch. |

I'm not playing through steam, since i'm afraid steam would maybe do what you are saying. I dragged the patched TESV.exe to my taskbar and start the game from there without steam being active.

When you fix the usage of RAM does it also improve your FPS?

welcome to the problem that plagues every game that comes from beth, fo3 and nv both do the 'magic crash to desktop no warning' thing. doesn't matter what you do either because its random, i've had days where ill boot up a game be it any of the 3, play for 5-6 hrs no crash, then ill have days where it crashes every 1hr.. afaik its unfixable.

Any steam works game I've played so far required steam to be running at least in the background. Didn't know skyrim doesn't.

The OP is not the only person with this problem.
The LAA patch also worked for me for a time and then it stopped working. It seem the more you play this game, the worse it gets. I'm at 71 hours now and the game is pretty much unplayable because of stability issues, regardless of the settings I use. I think the problem is that at a certain point the game begins to have issues remembering and loading all of the changes that have been made to cells over the course of your play-through, so when it tries to load a cell and the changes don't match or something like that it crashes the game. You'll notice that if you use the uGridsToLoad tweak and then try to load the game with a different setting, the game crashes in the same manner, which is why I think this has something to do with cell loading. Plenty of games on Steam work like this. Also, I just checked and he's not lying. Skyrim only needs Steam running if you run it from the launcher. If you run TESV.exe directly, you don't need Steam running. Last edited by IndigoAK: 11-20-2011 at 01:45 PM. |
