Skyrim crashes randomly to desktop, no warnings - Page 2

Also give windowed mode a try. I play it like that and have not had one single CTD, and I play for 10 hours at a time.

What sort of warning were you expecting?
I'm just imagining a specially designed NPC that appears out of the tree line exhausted and out of breath "Novaking! the world is about to end! WARNING WARNING"

True, i was suprised myself as well. I rather play on steam because of the achi's, the screenshot management and chatting with friends.

It was just some sort of test to see if it would still CTD without steam and it sadly does.

I think what he means is that he's expecting a dialogue listing the error, rather than a simple crash to desktop. Bethesda games are notorious for not providing feedback for why the game is crashing.

That would imply that it's a contained crash, which may not be the case.

You can code your program to intercept any errors and counter them or show an error message, but if any slip the net the process may need to be terminated instantly, in which case you can't really display a warning or something.

I'm not saying this is the case, but it could be.

I'm actually familiar with all of that. I program a bit in C# as a hobby. The OP might not be though.

seems like all we all need Bethesda to get their ♥♥♥♥ together and fix this memory leak and other problems present that are causing a big headache for all of us.

seriously bethesda needs to do something

i payed for that game and i wanna ♥♥♥♥ing play it without crashing every half hour, its so ♥♥♥♥ing annoying and destroys all the fun
so get ur asses up and release a patch alrdy

They said the current target for the first patch is the week after Thanksgiving.

First: Do u have Xfire? Skyrim dont like it. Turn the Xfire ingame chat off.
Second: Like Fallout3, Skyrim dont like some anime audio codec. If u have something like that, search for
FFDShow audio decoder
click on "direct show control" search for the "dont use the fddshow in" on the right side and put the "TESV.exe" and "SkyrimLauncher.exe" in there.
That worked for me.

nah dont have xfire nore fddshow codecs or anything similar

Im getting skyrim silent crashes now about every ~15min.

NO "FIX" can fix this, no patch, no changing the sound settings, no window mode, nothing. I just crashes. Also get periods where attempting to fast travel to one location (WIndhelm) Will crash Ever. Single. Time. no fail.

it's getting increasingly annoying.

Which happens to be the suggested autosave interval. Autosaving also occurs on resting or fast travel.

Same thing here,CTD when fast traveling or resting but also random CTD without warning.

yeah getting CTD as well, been getting them since I played this game, or the screen goes black then goes to the desktop, I save regularly, but its annoying as anything
