Future Content and Updates Suggestion Thread

If there's any idea you want to give to make Cave Story+ even better or if there's any issues you want to bring to NICALiS' attention, I've made this thread for that.

-Rules-
  • NO FLAMING (Let's not start something that would result in insulting others like this thread and be civil Cave Story fans)
  • NO SPAMMING / TROLLING (Allow following bullet point No. 1)
  • PLEASE CONTRIBUTE SOMETHING THAT WOULD ACTUALLY BENEFIT THE GAME
I don't have Cave Story+ per se (although I plan to buy it), but I got some thing to bring up since playing the WiiWare version of the game that I want to address, some spoilers may be included (is there a "spoiler" tag for this forum? /noob)...

My suggestions...
  1. Allow the Original and New visuals to apply to EVERYTHING (in the WiiWare version, the Old and New visual setting only applied to the main Cave Story mode and nothing else)
  2. Allow the player to chose what color/spite they want for the main Cave Story mode (unless the "cheats" are also still in this version, but it'd be nice to have a setting to apply the desired scheme to any mode).
  3. Let the player play Curly Story on Easy and Hard modes, not force the player to play as Curly only on Normal (this is the case with the WiiWare version)
  4. Kinda following No. 3, allow the player to play as Curly in other game modes.
  5. A "Text Speed" option of sorts for those that just want to speed through the dialogue if they already have been through the story of the game.
Nit-picking
  1. Use Aeon Genesis' translation of the game.
Not sure if this is a thread worth pinning, but it'd be nice if the admins did pin this thread. Also, if there's a way to get in touch with NICALiS, is there a way we can talk them into adding some of Cave Story+'s features into the Wii/DSiWare version.

I agree with all of the above. It's weird that part of the original graphical artwork is there for Wind Fortress, but unfinished. It's like they thought "Yeah, let's do Original graphics for this too!" And then gave up halfway through.
  • I'd love to see Leaderboard integration at some point for the Challenges.
  • A save feature for the Sanctuary Time Attack, so you don't have to regain all the weapons you want to use.
  • A Sound Test?
  • Option for official/Aeon Genesis translation.

Just those off the top of my head, will think of more.

Something else I want to add to updating the game:
  1. Unlimited slots (saves stored into a separate folder within the game's directory or somewhere in "My Documents").
  2. A copy saves function
Nitpicking
  • Change the "." (period) into a "/" during decision making (i.e. saving your game) like in the original or NICALiS' versions with the Original graphics settings.

How about a level editor, and some way to share levels? I'd like to see what kind of masochistic levels people would design.

A text skip, or better yet, scene skip option would be nice.

Unlimited saves wold be nice, too. This isn't a WiiWare game, so no need to artificially limit it to three save slots, Nicalis. You should be able to choose which slot you want to save to when saving, as well.

Other than that, just fix the achievement bugs and I'll be happy.

They really need to fix the game's icon file for the shortcuts; all I get is a blank icon for the game. That, and they need to fix the game to play it without Steam running.

I don't think that's possible for any Steam game, as nice as that would be. Even the really old games that run through DOSBox need Steam to launch.

- Fix Hard Mode to actually be a "hard mode" rather than a "no life capsule run"

- Added levels and storyline. More endings.

- Cave Story 3DS graphics option

I know for a fact that you can launch Dungeons of Dredmor straight through the .exe file, so it's possible.

Good to know, thanks. Especially interesting because it has Steam features like achievements and leaderboards.

Still, I doubt most companies would willingly remove copy protection from their games like that.

A few Steam games can run without logging into Steam; from what I remember, Borderlands was able to run with Steam prior to it's Borderlands 2 Testing updates. Other games I've tried to run with my Steam are Breath of Death VII and Cthulhu Saves the World, both of which can run with Steam.

But with Cave Story's+ *exe, it does not run, let alone open up a Steam log in window.

I have two, except they're really more bug fixes than anything else:

1. Change Sanctuary Time Attack to the DSi version, in which the item selection room has an upper ledge with the Missiles, Life Pot and The Snake, also when you die you start with all your items at the beginning of the stage (past the item selection room).

2. When you die on Wind Fortress, the 290 Counter doesn't restart and you have to quit to make it restart. I assume this is a bug, a fix would be appreciated.

Honestly, the only thing I want at the moment is to have the game the way it was when Aeon Genesis translated it. No, "Oh Yeah!" or Bushlands. I want what we played years ago and then let it be George Lucas'd with the updated graphics option. The dialogue of the original was much more charming & I shouldn't have to mod my game to restore it.

I also, as already suggested above, would love to see a level editor and a way to share and rate them.
Also, leaderboards for competing times with friends and globally. Mostly friends since I'm not that good. XD

The Humble Indie Bundle version has a new soundtrack option called "Remastered" (in addition to Original and New). I'd really like to see this come to the Steam version too.

Boyzby, the AGTP Story mod should take care of that for the most part.

Have Challenge modes saved separate to save games so you can delete save games without re-locking the challenge modes. Oh and Aeon Genesis translation would be neat.
