Can't give Chronicles of Nchuleft to Urag

Speaking to Urag gro-Shub of the Winterhold College he gave me a quest to find a book called Chronicles of Nchuleft. I already had the book in my inventory (had it for ages as I couldn't drop the quest item). Unfortunately by already having it the quest is bugged and now I can't complete the quest. I went to the location the quest points to which is the chest I already got the book from, which is now of course empty. I can't put the book back in the chest and take it again so I need a console command to move the quest along so the game knows I've got the book already.

Speaking to Urag again I can't tell him I've got the book, the game wants me to go to the chest, open it and take the book; but it's not in there, cause I've already got the damn thing.

This quest is not yet on the Skyrim wiki pages at uesp.net/wiki/

You could try to kill Urag, then resurrect him.

Console commands you will need are on the wiki. The order is:

1. setessential URAGS_ID 0
2. click urag, kill, press enter, leave console
3. setessential URAGS_ID 1
4. open console, click urag, resurrect, enter, close console

Maybe that will work until we get creation kit for IDs.

If it's one of the random quests the console (~) command

setstage MGR20 20

Should do it.

Thanks, that worked. Good thing I'm not playing this on console otherwise I'd be well stuck. Hurrah for the command console! Every game should have one.

I have the same problem but with the wild elves book and with killing a hagraven in a tower... oh and collecting a bounty from skaald
