Currently if we purchase retail games we can only activate it to our game library. By giving us the option to activate it as a Steam gift, it will be much easier and safer for all Steam traders this way.


We won't have to risk invalid/in-use keys when we trade, since it's already activated as a gift.

We don't have to worry about whether the key code has been obtained illegitimately through leaks/etc and avoid account suspensions. (Though it is up to STEAM to add a "verify key" feature to see if it is blacklisted.)

This feature will benefit every trader, as it makes it harder for users to fall prey to scams.

I say it would need the same sort of system that the "Activate a product on Steam" feature has, where if you try activating too many false games, your account gets disabled or whatever.

Wish I had this option. I have a Dota 2 key that I want to trade away, but I can't legally gift it over. Of course no one will trust each other to comply, despite my stellar reputation. Oh well.

I am 100% down with this. I have a boxed retail Steamworks key that is going to waste as I already own a copy. Having the option to "Activate as Gift..." would be awesome.

I get in on every Indie Bundle I find (Humble, Royale, Gala, even the Music ones), so I end up with a lot of keys that I can't use. As it stands, I'm having to keep a document to list down what I have and haven't activated, but even then, I'm risking handing over a used key, betraying the tenuous trust of Internet bargaining.

I own a couple computers, each with at least a video card... So I've gotten keys for games like Dirt3, which I've never even played and never intended to.
