First of all, how does he know it was a Valve employee? Second, which game developer event exactly? Third, honestly, would a company that's been so tight-lipped about this project for about 4 years, will suddenly let it's employees walk around with such T-shirts, while the game isn't even announced yet?

Just... "a Valve employee". With no name, no face and a big veiny forearm.
I like how they've swapped the position of the lambda symbol and the game number around; it's the second most attention-seeking number 3 I've ever seen. It's screaming "look! a 3! THREEEE!"

But hey, let's suppose this is true. Someone's first response will be to complain that Valve never made them Half-Life 2 Episode 3, moaning about broken promises or some such guff.

This has to be the worst attempt at trying to make a fake, convincing HL3 Tshirt. The three isnt even the same typeface as the rest of the text. Plus, thats just a plane terrible design.

This. I doubt that VALVe would make such an important announcement by making an anoynymous employee wear a shady t-shirt at some random game dev. event. Seriously now. An ARG like Portal 2's would make sense, but this? Errr, no, thank you very much. Because yes, just wearing this t-shirt (it is/was official) would be the confirmation that Half-Life 3 DOES exist (I know people are real quick to say VALVe -or anyone else for that matter- is trolling, but that'd be more serious than just crossing the yellow line here).

If it is someone "trolling", that dude is going to feel the wrath of nerd rage like no one has ever seen. He'll have to hide out in a place that has girls and a social atmosphere.
