Steam Account forgotten password e-mail

I was just sent an e-mail from support to reset my password complete with the code and everything.

Thing is, I never requested a reset. Is Support sending these out randomly or is someone trying to get into my account? My e-mail and accounts of course have completely different names and passwords, but I'd just like to know if anyone else was sent an e-mail like this unexpectedly.

Sounds to me someone is trying to get into your account.

Best best is to reset your password in steam and then in your email.

Make sure Steam guard is on.

I'd change your password if I were you (don't use the same one as you use for your email)

I have steam guard on, so I'm wondering how far they could have gotten after requesting the password reset.

I don't see anything changed in my account so I'm not sure what happened. I thought Steam Guard was suppose to ask for verification any time Steam was used on a new device.

Have you used your account on any other system?

If so have steam guard deauthorize all other computers.

If you haven't then it's possible it's a scam attempt (email sending address can easily be forged).

I'd ignore the email but seriously change your password.

I'm fairly sure they couldn't have gotten anywhere after just requesting the reset. That went to your mail. And you're right - Steam Guard would have stopped them if they had gotten past that.

You're probably safe. I don't know how Steam handles it, but in a LOT of systems, it seems almost anyone could force a reset email by simply failing to log into an account enough times.

And that should only trigger an email to the accounts owner.

ETA: The advice to change your email & Steam passwords is probably good advice. While it may not be needed ... safe/sorry and all that rot.
