Steam downloading something I dont want, Cant stop it

Right now I started up steam and its got a download going.

Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter Demo.

First of all I did not select to download this. Second, why am I downloading the demo when I own the game. Third, Its not showing up in my download section or my library So I am unable to stop it.

This just seems weird. What is going on here steam?

Well, it's probably because the demo is a limited version of the game and not a separate version; like Half-Life 2 Demo, Worms Reloaded Demo or Plants vs. Zombies Demo. Those kinds of demos download the full game, but are restricted, so when you buy the game, you don't have to download anything. That happened to me as well with Half-Life 2 Demo.

Now, did you have the Demo before buying the game? Because if you did, then that's the problem; Steam recognizes you had the demo installed, so whenever the game is updated, the demo will do it as well.

My Steam is currently downloading 'Company of Heroes Single Player Demo'.

I have all 3 Company of Heroes games! Why the hell would I want this

I cannot stop it as it is not listed in the downloads .... WHY IS THIS DOWNLOADING !!??

I deleted an unwanted game, then accidentally downloaded it again. I can't remove it either...

Another case of Steam doing what it wants with "your" computer. We need a way to commpletely disable ALL "features" that we don't want.

You can check if Steam is downloading something by placing the mouse over the Steam icon (the small one, near where the time is displayed) in the task bar.

Then maybe it's a mistake on the icon and it's not actually downloading anything. Did you check a couple of times the HD space the Steam folder is taking, to see if the size has changed noticeably?

No, it's not a mistake. I've seen it happening by myself. It usually happens when you have the Demo for the game and then buy the game (without uninstalling the demo before). Whenever the game gets updated, the demo does as well (well, it depends on the game; I've seen it happening with Worms Reloaded and Half-Life 2).

It might do that in case there are multiple accounts on the same computer, in order that the one who bought the game gets it, and the other get the demo.

happened to me whit the demo of civ 5, i own civ 5 buts still download the demo, if i place mouse over the Steam icon in the task bar i see that its downloading that demo.

This kept happening to me with portal first slice.I already owned portal for several months, and it just randomly started doing it.

Also last night for some bizarre reason Steam also decided to download the latest ATI Driver for me..... I have an Nvidia GTX580
