GFWL?
Hello, I'm interested in this game even though I'm a total newb to F1 games, my last one was for the SEGA Genesis/MegaDrive. But I heard that this game has "Games for Windows Live"? If so, is this true for all PC versions including the Steam version?

Across all platforms, PC, Xbox and PS3. Just part of Microsofts plan to rule the world
Steam is just storing the game for you and keeping it up to date. You will have to sign up for GFWL to play the game. |

Even the PS3 version!? Wow, I guess I won't be getting this game then. I hope F1 2012 will be free of GFWL.
Thanks for your reply. |

The ps3 version doesn't have gfwl, no ps3 games do.
Strictly speaking the 360 doesn't either. Gfwl is Games For Windows Live. Clue is in the name. Basically it just means Windows games can get all the 360 online stuff like matchmaking, achievements, etc. Lots of people don't like it, for various reasons, but I've never had a problem and actually like it.... |

GFWL is a 5% Activision Coupon.
Pointless and unnecessary. |

Gfwl when it works is just Xbox Live with some games needing you to enter their cd key. Anyone who's used a 360 has little reason for wanting to avoid those.
When it doesn't work however... |

I know a lot of people have posted about problems across the Internet. but of the 6-7 RL gamer friends I have, I've only ever seen one problem with GFWL; and that was it, on one friend's PC, being unable to connect due to crappy spy/tracking software installed ("Safe Eyes"). Uninstalling that fixed everything...

Absolutely nothing wrong with GFWL. I highly doubt the 2012 version would be GFWL free, your loss for missing out on the game because it uses GFWL. Oh well, suppose there isn't anything we can do to change your perspective just because you read some horror stories about it on the internet.

mainly and all I want is provided in the games I play...nothing to do with XBOX is needed by me. I resent having to use it, to play a game I want to play on my PC online.GFWL is slowly spoiling the PC gaming experience. I know F1 2010/2011 are not sim' games in purity; but to be fair to Codemasters, they have tried to make us all happy and would have succeeded, except for GFWL. |
