Thank you for doing what you did. Hate to say it, but you should try to reinstall steam

Do you mean it freezes when the blue bar at the bottom starts loading up? If so, that happened to me two days ago. I started Gmod and it would freeze at the exact same part. I tried it like 8 times in 20 minutes. After about an hour I tried again and it started fine.

No there is no blue bar it's just the picture of a guy holding a physgun.

Right, when that picture shows up a blue bar appears at the bottom loading up the game. Does it not appear to you? When the game wouldn't start for me the loading bar would stop and freeze at the same part every time I tried to start Gmod.

The game is completely different now, than 2 freaking years ago when this thread was last posted.

Gunman333 - are you running the current GMOD 13 build?

Do you own legally and have installed on that Steam account and that computer, the other required Source games that are needed to play and run Gmod? (Games such as Counterstrike Source and those found in the Orange Box?)

Have you opened and played those games at least once - you don't have to go in and play, just start a game and that will allow Gmod to utilize their files.

Have you done the normal process for any Steam game that doesn't work -

** Verify the game files, by right-clicking on the game icon in your Steam library, choose Properties, Game Files, and then Verify. RESTART STEAM.

** Check for your internet connecting allowing Steam to run properly. Check also for your virus scanner or firewall to allow Steam to run through it without triggering a scan.

** How is your internet connection? Are you normally able to play other online games or games which have the Steam Workshop attached?

** Have you attempted to DISABLE Steam in-game, also found by right-clicking the game icon and finding the option in the Properties area?

Is your computer physically capable of running this game and the other Source games that it relies upon? Do you have other Source games that run just fine, and it's just this one? Don't compare to any other engine games - only Source matters in this case.

Check off those things first. Verify and restart Steam, disable steam in-game, and make sure that you've got games that Gmod needs first. You may need to re-download, or you may just need to be patient. If you can get to the menu options, reduce your game's video options until they're bare minimum. OR, try running using the -windowed command in the Properties/Launch Parameter area.
