Do you only crash when running the tutorial?

I'm wondering. Everyone who is crashing, are you crashing when you run the tutorial, or do you crash when running a new game? I tend to run new games fine, and I only crash when running the tutorial.

I've been playing this game for years, and this is the first crash I've had, and it only happens on the tutorial (Which actually isn't that helpful anyway, so you don't really need it).

Please, try playing a new game. Click new game, add a single ai player, and see if the game works. I'm thinking that santa may have not been programmed into the tutorial, so he's messing something up.

I just started playing this game after having it sit on my games-list for ages and it crashed for me after a few minutes in a normal game.
Reading this forum, I changed the Windows-compatibility mode for the exe to XP with SP3 (I'm on 64bit Win 7) and that seems to have fixed the problem in-game.

But I just started a tutorial and it crashes, doesn't even load.

So yeah, you might be right about Santa not being in the tutorial..

[edit]
Oh, I just saw the other thread discussing this

I get crashes every time I start a new game (I did get one game to run, but it crashed at defcon 1, tried two games after which both crashed before it even started). Funny thing is, I played it a bit the day I bought the Humble Introversion Bundle and it worked fine there with no crashes, but today it crashes all the time. I guess it's the santa causing the crash.

I went through the tutorial chapters on the demo, everything worked just fine. Removed the Demo, downloaded the purchased version and tried the tutorial, which resulted in an unrecoverable error.

So the demo worked fine, and the main game works okay in normal play modes, so far as I can tell, so it is likely the glitch is part of the Christmas update.

I'm sure they'll resolve it soon, but you can get the achievement in the normal modes just fine.

EDIT:

Yeh, just as an experiment, I replaced the .exe from the demo into the full game, and now it works fine again.

Put the demo version's defcon.exe and main.dat into your Steam version and the tutorial will work but the Santa won't.

I seem to only crash on the tutorial, but I have no idea how to launch a nuke without it.

Try changing the system clock on your computer BACK to a day in October. Worked for me.

Don't know if it crashes only in tutorial, because I don't want to play it without going through the tutorial first. But I'll probably have to eventually, if I want to get the achievement.
I should probably download the client from the Humble Bundle page, install it and go through the tutorial, and then play it on Steam.

Only crashing when I try to run the tutorial. Didn't really need it anyways as I nuked Santa good and proper and still got presents today. Win/win!

Workaround only to get through the tutorial - set system date to September, do the tutorial, then switch back to December.
Santa is just a script set to work within Xmas timeframe.
Outside Xmas it doesn't work and it can't crash tutorial.
