Red face GRID won't begin install.

When I try to install GRID I get to the point where it begins to download local game cache files and "prepare GRID files to install", but it doesn't move past this point, not a single bar on the progress bar. After about 20 seconds it says "an error has occurred (connection timeout)". I have enough hard drive space and I have tried installing other games with no problems, so I know the connection should be fine on my end. Has anyone experienced this with this, or any other, game? In particular, does anyone know what I should do? I sent out a support request several days ago, but obviously I have received nothing from STEAM in response.

PS: This is my first post, so I'm hoping I'm just ignorant of an easy fix...

Try "delete local files" first

Same problem for me.
Won't install.

When you click on INSTALL, it starts to "prepare files for installation" and after a while displays a window saying:

Steam Error
An error occured while installing GRID (Connection timeout)
OK

As with others, this is a clean install.
Nothing to delete.

In my case, I run Steam from an External hard drive [ F: ]. But I doubt this is the problem (see error message above).

All other games installing/running fine (Blur, Test Drive, Oblivion, Divinity II, Bioshock, Bioshock II, Bastion, Sonic, etc.)

Dell Studio 1737
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, Service Pack 1
4GB RAM, Samsung External Drive (600Gb, 120Gb free)
Intel Core Duo P8600 2.4GHz
Ati Mobility Radeon HD3650

I had this with a different game - I copied the steam folder to a backup - no mean feat as it's 160GB in size.

Then I uninstalled steam, deleted the steam folder, and reinstalled it.

Sign in and start the installation for each of your games (except grid) then pause each. Copy the steam SUBdirectories back from the backup folder (it avoids the need to re-download. If this isn't an issue, by all means don't bother with the copy & just let it download).

I refuse to accept that this is the only way to fix the problem, but I couldn't find any other solutions, and Steam support were worse than useless: They didn't read my support request and asked me to try things I'd already tried (check your network connection, etc)

Just keep trying. Mine gave me the error about 10 times before it worked. I've had this issue with nearly every game I've purchased in the Winter Sale. Much like Grid did it took me 8-10 times of getting the error before it worked out the bug and went through.

This is a pretty common problem when the Steam servers are under high load, such as:
1.) a big, much-anticipated game being released,
2.) or in this case, a sale on a weekend, when plenty of people are at home, trying to take advantage of it right away

Just keep trying, eventually it will connect, and the install will run on its own. If it doesn't work now, come back in 30 mins or so, and try again. It's just a result of a lot of people trying to download all the new games they just bought.

I think it's a separate problem from it being server overload, but I can confirm that on my eighth consecutive attempt, I was able to start downloading. I should note that I had been having this problem for nearly two weeks, so thanks to NightDrifter05.

I had this when i tried to install it earlier, had to try 7 times to get it to work. I think it's just a case of the servers being overloaded due to the sale. either keep trying or change your server location

Same problem, and same solution for me!
Yesterday i was trying for about 6 times and nothing. Today I just reed this thread and decide to try again. I was able to start downloading on second attempt.
So Yes it's just because servers are overloaded due to the sale.

I have been trying on and off for about 2 weeks now with GRID, everything else installed just fine with the sale, but GRID is still not getting past this point for me. Guess i will have to try on and off and then one lucky day the game will install... somehow feel shafted with this purchase.

same problem here... Bought it 2 days ago, but still no luck with the download... Keep getting the connection timeout error when I try to start downloading. While all other purchases work fine...

Is it possible that steam resets its download URL for it?
