^^... Prelude is one of the first mods for Portal, but not a very good one.

Best of the best: Portal Pro

^^ Portal Pro is a must-play.
And Mevious has just released a trailer for his second mod, Rexaura.

Another good mod is Gamma Energy.

Yes, Rexaura is just as good, if not better than Portal Pro. All the puzzles are mind boggling. Once again all very simple to do, yet may take hours to unravel the handful of steps to solve each one. What is so great about his chamber puzzles is that they all are very easy to complete once the solution is found, but the individual solutions are not obvious even if they only require a few simple steps.

Hint: Nothing is complex, so don't look for solutions that takes a lot of steps or requires any thing more than basic Portal skills. No double or triple flings that require expert skills and millisecond timing, no hidden\dumb crouch-jump-flings, and not even something as simple as Portal tunneling is required.

His designs are pro-am; designs that are near professional quality.

I was so dissapointed with this - despite the great presentation and everything else, what makes Portal so brilliant is gone - PP relies far to much on twitch movements as opposed to logic and a normal amount of skill to pull off things such as gaining momentum.

Exactly, and so many other fan maps do the same, totally missing what makes Portal so cool.

I continue to recommend Portal Pro because every single puzzle is about solving a puzzle using out of the box thinking. Not a single puzzle requires ninja moves. Once a solution is found, any novice gamer can complete the steps required, but the puzzles themselves are mind benders.

Portal Prelude terribly dissapointed me. I was stuck for like 15 minutes on like the 4th map cos I couldn't make a jump, and that was everything I needed to do. It wasnt hard to figure it out nor complex. All I had to do was making a stupid jump but couldn't. (I'm too clunky at times)

And like you said, this is not what Portal is about, so I dropped it =/
I sure hope so Portal Pro is better, I'm going to try it as soon as I get off work.

Portal Pro-http://www.moddb.com/mods/portal-pro
Gamma Energy-http://www.moddb.com/mods/gamma-energy
Factum Solus-http://www.moddb.com/mods/factum-solus

I ended up noclipping through half of Portal Prelude and eventually just ragequitting.

Blue Portals.

While there are a few twitchy-solution puzzles, the mod mainly relies on working with new objects and such (magnetism, light, fans, etc). And it takes place in its own universe, which is a beautiful touch. Voice acting and soundtrack are top notch. Out of all the Portal mods I've played, Blue Portals is definitely my favorite.

(And in agreement about Prelude. Waaaay too twitchy and such. And the voice acting grated on me more than the annoyingly-difficult puzzles. If I don't want to listen to the characters, then why bother?)

What it is important to to keep in mind about Portal Pro is that there are no tricks involved. Every solution is straight forward & easy to do, and most puzzle can be solved with a dozen portals or less, thus none of the puzzle solutions are a complicated maze of some kind.

If you can't solve a particular puzzle, it is because you need to think out side the box, not because the puzzle is complicated.

It has been well tested, so there are no serious bugs that will block your ability to solve the puzzles.

^^ I was thinking Portal Pro would work on the Mac because I tried it once.

In general they should work, but you need to know what steps are required for the Mac, which are different from that PC. Most mods are not tested on the Mac, so some are going to work better than others. Also ask in Steam's Mac forum to see if others Mac gamers have more specific help on how to get mods to work. Once you figure out how to install 1-2 of them, the rest will be pretty much the same.

Portal Pro is an excellent mod. Best of the best
