Cannot run IN the game

After buying this game on sale during the break, Ive run in to the rarest problem. I cannot run in the game. Pressing shift doesnt work, trying to change the run command to a diffrent key doesnt work, trying to get past the prologue without running doesnt work, so Im a bit stuck. When I press and hold the run key my stamina bar blinks on for a sec but then disappears. Ive tried restarting the game, playing diffrent characters, everything. Also its not a problem with my keyboard because right now and every other time SHIFT does work. Any ideas about what this is and how to fix it?

Verify the game files via Steam.

Try renaming inputs_def.scr and inputs.scr located at \Dead Island\DI\out\Data and start the game.

And make sure you don't have any weird or cryptic characters in the game path or Documents folder.

If any of that fails, post your specs and driver dates.

graphics options > fulscreen

turn it on and off and it should fix it

well thanks, I tried that too but came up with all those 'will my comp run this game' stuff. Do you know why the glitch happens?

The game has a lot of keyboard issues, it's just bad programming.

Handbrake doesn't work with a keyboard, there's microstutter, and the issue where if you press the key above the right-hand enter |\ your controls won't respond until you press the same key again.

And the inventory UI is beyond bad with a keyboard, the worst I've ever seen in a game.

make sure you got your sprint key bound and it should work
