New GPU. That Q6600 of yours is still a great CPU. Doubling the RAM couldn't hurt either, but that might be a little costly since DDR2 isn't produced en mass anymore.
Also, try to figure out your exact PSU specs, that could be a problem if it's not powerful enough. Last edited by snapjak: 01-06-2012 at 03:21 AM. |

I'm on a similar spec (Q6600, 4GB, Win 7 X64) with a GTX460 and I can play all current games no problem so I'd advise just the GPU given your budget.

As others have said, If you're on a limited budget, your Q6600 will last a while longer yet. If you could overclock it to 3Ghz, it would be even better. If you give us a budget and your Power Supply specs, we could recommend some choices for you

A GTX 550 ti is roughly the same price as the 450 here in the UK and is the better performer

Neah, if I would be you I'll just buy another GPU. 4 Gb of memory is still enough for games now, the cpu you could overclock, let's say @3 GHz (be sure to have a very good cooling). What resolution does your monitor have? And what's your budget? And of course let us now what power supply do you have.

How many PCI-E connectors does your current Power Supply have? (the ones that plug into your graphics card)
If you're looking to upgrade the PSU as well, I'd go for something like this: http://www.cclonline.com/product/715...-Unit/PSU0275/ And then something like this for your graphics card upgrade (HD 6850): http://www.ebuyer.com/321991-powerco...p6850-1gbd5-dh That will take you slightly over budget but if you don't have 2 X PCI-E connectors then your power supply may be a problem. The Radeon HD 6850 is comparable to a GTX460 and can be had pretty cheaply
http://www.ebuyer.com/284386-his-hd-...card-h685fn1gd it also has lower power requirements than the GTX460 http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=632&card2=636 which is a consideration given your PSU and I agree that you should think about replacing that PSU before long. |

I think my PSU is X1 PCI-E. Any recommendation on other PSU's would be helpful
