Albion Prelude: Terran Commander

How on earth are you meant to proceed with this starting? I've explored all the Terran areas up to Omicron Lyrae and down to the unknown sectors in the other direction and I'm just baffled. There's no way I can make enough money to trade up with my ship within this economic environment so when our fleet makes some attempt on Omicron Lyrae we just get ripped to pieces and if I try and help the orbital missile platform blows me away with it's stupid missiles.

Your best bet for making money, at least in the short term, are the combat missions marked by the red crosshair. Patrol, station defense and the kill missions tend to be pretty easy. Try to avoid the escort missions, they suck; the enemy spawn out of thin air and all swarm the freighter before you can kill them all. They're not hard per se, they just seem a bit broken. Also look for return ship missions, they're easy money but rarely go above 70k credits.

As for long term money I too am stuck on this. I've earnt 5m credits doing these missions but they're getting to the point where my combat rank is so high that I need a better ship, like an M6 class, but can't afford one. I've tried setting up a trade "fleet" (a couple of Mistrals) and let the AI trade for me but the scripts suck, even the ones in the bonus pack. I just want some ships to fly around a few adjacent sectors and simply buy/sell whatever is the best value but I can't find this sort of script anywhere. Hopefully a more veteran player can explain how to make money in the long run.

I'm pretty sure auto traders need trade software v3 which isn't available in the Terran space.

Ah, really? I'll have to look into where to find that then. The bonus pack is worth a download as it includes a bunch of new things that the community created and were grouped together as a "patch" by Egosoft. A lot of things are aimed towards traders, such as a commodity software upgrade that allows you to assign traders to only trade in specific items or stations. Give it a look.

there are hundreds of sectors in X3 uve only explored a fraction of em.

http://eng.x3tc.ru/x3_tc_map/

Also when looking for combat missions ( Red cross hair) it helps to stay OUT of Terran sectors as there are none in Terran sectors, i havnt seen one yet so if anyone has id like to know .

Also a mod i like to use for a rare occurrence of extra money is NPC Bailing addon

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=219440

( I dont think this will work in AP though i havnt tried it )

This will allow you to configure NPC on NPC combat bail rates it is completely configurable from Cheat like god lvls to very rare realistic levels.

I suggest highly you keep the values as low as possible it adds some realism to the game and a rare chance of extra cash. Its not supposed to be a cheat mod but can be configured to be.....

I know how big the X3verse is but I really don't think I can run through the entire Argon space to reach someone who doesn't hate me. My point is how is this scenario meant to work out when you start as a Terran Commander? Surely they can't expect you to start and just bail out immediately.

A fast M5 will work wonders dont need to worry about missiles cause ur faster then em. Almost nothing will hit you with just some decent pilot skills.

But i agree does seem like a dumb spot Terrans are notoriously hard to do missions with because of the absence of combat missions. In TC theres a terran plot which leads up to giving you a decent ship also the universe dosnt want to blow you up.

I dont know much about AP cant help you much with specifics. if its only the argon that hate you its easy to reach the teladi and split from where you are. If they hate you also im not sure what you can do.

Not really anymore in AP, perhaps the Kestrel. The AI has been reworked to use the most appropriate missile for the target. So now they will fire Wasp [1K damage x 8 warheads] and
Disrupter [6K damage] missiles at scout ships.. M5's.

I put the damage the missiles do in brackets there, and a good number of M5's fall below that, of hull + shield strength.
[Hopefully the x3tc.ru site is close enough, I know it hasn't been updated for some time.]

They fire stronger missiles like Wildfire, silkworm, and banshees as the ship size grows.

-E-

I see you meant in the hands of the player .

Much different than just sending out a scout ship piloted by auto-pilock...

The AI is smart .... no way ! :P

Also my TC is modded i have a rapier explorer goes 648 m/s out runs any missile i can think of even the fast ones.... Then again if a bird turd hit the window the whole thing would explode so its a trade off and the thing is so damn fast i have to worry about micro asteroids more then missiles and ship weapons those suckers will sneak up on you.

But if the AI actually is smart with missiles that would ruin my plan not sure what u can do other then get lucky.

Turns out there is no plotline for Terran start at all. So they really don't care what you do at all.

With the challenges that people talk about the Terran start posing, I decided to give it a go. I was able to run the blockade of HE, CoL, and OL corridor using an upgraded Valkyre. Max it's speed, agility, and shields. In my run I was attacked in HE but the shields held *just* long enough for me to make it into the CoL gate. I was able to eject and heal my ship in CoL, once I outran the gate patrol. In OL, I was almost to the NH gate before my one minute warning from the Argon fleet had expired. From there, it was smooth flying into Teladi and Split space where you can find friendly docks. Once you make this run you can use your jumpdrive to hop over those war zones. From Teladi space or from Aldrin space you should be able to branch out and explore the bulk of the galaxy.

I take the battered economic situation in Terran space to be an oportunity for making profit. To that end, I would say that if you play the Terran start you should look first at an trade/production game strategy. If you want to go military the Terran start doesn't seem as though it will work out well. The one thorn in my side currently is Jupiter. The Argon have moved in and so I'm exluding Jupiter 1-3 from my trading currently. But, jump capable traders can bridge between the Venus side and the Saturn side of the Solar system.
