Question VAC ban possible for using Steam Achievement Manager on non-VAC game?

I want to use Steam Achievement manager for unlocking a couple of achievements on UT3 (non-VAC protected game). Can I get VAC banned for it?

Can I even get my Steam account suspended or banned for it?

Thanks.

no, you can't get vac banned if you never even launched the game.

I won't get into specifics, but sam works by sending a fake signal to the steam servers, letting the servers know that so and so has been achieved.

I'm not saying its good to use it either, it's not.

I think it might be possible to have your account disabled also then.

ah ok, well I've had a friend that used sam back in 2009 and has yet to be banned.

That's 3 years, I'm fairly sure if sam was indeed a cheating tool, he would have been banned a while ago.

Could you please stop spreading false information?

SAM follows the rule Valve have with any other 3rd party programs, which is: "use it at your own risk". That being said, they do not seem to be considering it a way to cheat the system at the moment. However, they could change their minds and wouldn't have to let you know about it.

If SAM allows you to unlock an achievement a game failed to unlock, then that's great. If you're using it to unlock all the achievements for a specific game, then you definitely missed the point of achievements. That's all.

Unlocking achievements that you didn't get fairly is cheating in my book. Especially when you needed those achievements to get coal and games in the recent sale.

Exactly. This is an endless debate I won't take part in.

alot of things can be considered as cheating. unfairly using friends to unlock a specific achievement could be considered as cheating because your not playing the game the way its meant to be played.

i highly doubt cheating to get an achievement would be considered as the same as say using an aim bot in a game.

For the most part using sam is frowned upon.

Because creating a server, puting bots in it and enabling friendly fire is less of a cheat. Thats how me and alot of people i know got tf2 valve gift grab. And i created 1v1 versus server with a friend just to keep killing eachother to get the l4d2 gift grab achievement.

Sorry, but earning it like this, doesn't make it any way more legit than earning it with sam. You're just cheating yourself in the end of the day, and not gaining any unfair advantage.

Oh and no, SAM does not get your account suspended, VAC banned till this date.

When you use SAM to unlock achievements, yes, maybe you cheat - but only yourself. It doesn't affect other players in any way unlike aimbots, wallhacks etc. so no reason to call it "cheating".
