Two really good 10 dollar games are:

Spacechem: A fun and very challenging puzzle game with a neat story to go along with it. The music fits perfectly with the mind strain that you feel when trying to figure some of those puzzles out.

Defense Grid: The production value on this is just great. The voice acting is wonderful and the gameplay is top notch. I haven't played it much but when I do play it it's always fun. It's tower defense so there's a bit of puzzle in it as well.

10$: Gothic 2 Gold Edition
By far one of the hardest RPGs you will ever play.
Not recommended if you are impatient and/or an eye-candy lover.
The controls need some time to get used to but once you've adapted this game will provide dozen hours of fun with huge replay value.

I would recommend playing Gothic 1 first though in order to familiarize yourself with the world, its characters and the backstory.
Unfortunately you can't buy the game on its own so you'll have to get the Gothic Universe Edition, which includes both games.

Trine 2 is the best $10 game on Steam IMO.

Sequence for 5 dollar game.

The concept of RPG/Rhythm game (Think DDR with monsters [Dance mat not needed unless you want to make the game REALLY hard]) works out incredibly well, the battles themselves are enjoyable, and it's a fairly funny game. Hell, it's even got good voice acting despite being an indie title. The entire thing is just a flat-out unique and enjoyable experience.

Binding of Isaac it's great. Lots of stuff to unlock and the gameplay is really different everytime you play (although the difficulty is kind of random because it depends on the items you find)

I bought Velvet Assasin for 1.24 euro on steam sale.. it's normally 5 euro..
It didn't receive the best reviews 61/100 meta score..
But i was surprised how good it was.
If you want a VERY realistic 2nd world war assasin game, this game is not for you..
If you can look pass the realisme and just love assasin games, this is for you..

STALKER SOC and Call of Pripyat for $5 together because the game bundle is cheap but very polished games.

For $10, I'm going with Shogun 2.

It's currently €40, so quite a bit more expensive than $10. (I know, it was on sale, but I think the OP may mean current prices -- but I may well be wrong!)

  • Trine - Awesome 2.5D Platformer, gorgeous aesthetics, awesome physics.
  • Aquaria - A good Metroidvania game. Has a good soundtrack.
  • Dungeons of Dredmor - Roguelike with a ton of replayability.
  • Cave Story+ - Another great Metroidvania.
  • Dark Void Zero - Old School Metroidvania.
  • (A lot of the Sega Classics)
  • Puzzle Agent 2 - Darn Good Puzzle Solving game, although Puzzles are a bit easy.
  • Faerie Solitaire - It's solitaire with new mechanics. Also has collecting and perks system.
  • Runespell - A good mixture of RPG and Poker... I enjoyed it.
  • Bit.Trip Runner - Hardcore Platformer. Love it to bits. Excellent Soundtrack.
  • Eversion - Extremely Short but enjoyable Mario platformer.
  • Braid - Come on.. who hasn't heard of braid?
  • Flight Control HD - Goes on Sale often and it's a good 20-30 minute time waster when you need to pass the time.
  • Cthulu Saves the World - Excellent old school JRPG.. Full of good humour.
  • Jamestown - A good beginner Bullethell game. It has great Aesthetics.
  • Gundemonium Collection - An awesome Bullethell Collection. If you are into SHMUPS, it's a good buy.

Honestly I could keep listing but it's going to get to big for me to keep going.
