This game hates me

Granted, I am terrible at this game and have yet to kill Mom. (Got to her three times and died).

But my last two good runs have been especially annoying. Had a great run (Technology + Pentagram + 8 hearts) when a Larry enemy on Level 5 glitched me into a center square surrounded by pits that I couldn't get out of (tried a bomb, but there is nothing else to do, right?). Before that, had 8+ filled hearts and beat Level 5 when a Devil Room appeared (awesome) - only to find a Krampus that took most of my hearts (he is hard!), so I got killed by enemies on Mom's level.

Mom is not so hard when you understand her pattern!

What I usually do is, hug the wall on the left side of the screen, and shoot one of the doors, maybe she will appear on that one. When I hear her 'stomping sound', I move away a bit and fire at my previous position. I only care about enemies spawned if they follow and/or shoot at me. With enough damage, she can be defeated quite fast.

If she is still a problem for you, try to grab a Bible as a usuable item. Once activated, it instantly kills Mom :P

I've played the game about 21 hours, and the farthest I've gone is Depths II. Damn!

Well, things seem to be getting better - I've killed Mom (first with the Bible, then several times normally) and completed Wombs II three times, with three different characters (Maggy, Cain, Judas). I still find the Mom fight far more hectic and difficult than the Heart fight, which seems much easier to manage, especially with bombs. Scolex is easier than almost every room in the Wombs!

Eve is a pain, though. I am not sure I will ever even get up to Mom with her, given the abysmal damage.

Have a look at this video:

http://bindingofisaac.wikia.com/wiki/Mom

How I kill her: stay in the centre of the room, keeping an eye on the shadow of her foot. You don't need to back off too much to dodge it. When her foot isn't down, choose a side to spam, usually the one with the hardest enemy close to it. Try to ignore the less important monsters. If they get closer to you, try to get them killed by her stomp.

The main reason why the person in the vid got hit so much is because he/she payed too much attention to the random enemies, and not the foot.

I remember when the game first came out, and thought Mom was impossible. Now I'm passing her, and going for Satan constantly.

The trick to the game is to find the secret rooms, and destroy the secret blocks. Spirit hearts, and coins will get you far.

I've played quite a bit myself... never reached mom but yeah; you get good runs and you get bad runs.
