Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight crash

I bought the entire Jedi Knight series when it was on sale last month. After briefly trying the first game earlier today, I found it wasn't to my liking for a few reasons (most notable of which was I couldn't change the keybindings, and I had to use Page Up/Page Down to look up and down, as opposed to just using my mouse - I don't have three hands, LA). I then installed the sequel. After putting the specs to the max and changing a few key bindings, I started playing. About 30 seconds (maybe?) after starting, this horrifying noise began emanating from my speakers and I couldn't move. I soon noticed that it was "just" a bug that caused the sound to play really, really slowly for ten or twenty seconds and then made my computer crash.

So what's wrong, and how do I fix it? I want to play this seemingly awesome game, but I fear my system might be too advanced.
