Unhappy Akamai NetSession Interface?

Is Akamai NetSession Interface a part of steam? if not what is it for? My fire wall keeps poping up asking to allow or block it, so i keep temporaroly blocking it since I know not what its for.

Nothing to do with Steam.

A quick Google search of "Akamai NetSession" shows this as the first result http://www.akamai.com/html/misc/akam...rface_faq.html

akamai is an edge content provider. If you block it you may not get video or pictures from sites that use akamai like cnn and others
