The Flaming Magician set

Pyromaniac's Staff
Level 34 Magic Staff
+40% range
-20% particle spread
Shares ammo with 'Wand of White Heat'

Wand of White Heat
Level 34 Magic Wand
Ignites enemy on hit
-50% reload time
Alt-fire produces Cleansing Cloud around caster, removing Jarate, Mad Milk, and fire from nearby teammates.
-10% damage
Each shot uses 10 Magic
No random crits
Shares ammo with 'Pyromaniac's Staff'
Alt-fire has 1 second cooldown, 1 second duration, and uses 30 Magic on use.

Pyromancer's Cloak
Level 60 Flame retardant robe
"We have no idea why, but a wizard thought it'd be a good idea to combine fire and long flowing clothes.
We fixed that little design flaw with a bit of asbestos."

Flaming Magician Set
+50% Magic pool

The Pyromaniac's Staff and the Wand of White Heat share an ammo pool called Magic, which is refilled over time at a low rate, maybe about 3-5 per sec, which is higher than Medic's health regen. Ammo crates can refill it.

OP? UP? Thoughts? Criticisms? All welcomed!

Set bonus is way too strong. You double his ammo pool for an almost negligible health loss?

However, at the same time, I think the Staff is a bit too weak. If the beta changes happen, it's only as strong as the Degreaser, without the switch speed bonus. Without the beta changes, it's weaker than the Degreaser. Its effectively infinite ammo doesn't really help when neither the flames nor the afterburn are especially dangerous. Though I suppose it'd make a decent Sentry-guarder, for keeping Spies at an even further distance.

In that case, I think I'd rather just use the Wand by itself, paired with the Backburner or Phlogistinator, since both of those 'throwers would most certainly benefit from free extinguishings, like they do with the Manmelter.

And if the Wand crits burning targets (not likely), then it outclasses the Manmelter.

Thanks for the input, I'll go ahead and buff the staff and nerf the set a little.

...Wait.

did the set initially have -10 health, or -10% health?

Because the difference is a pretty important one, and I may have spoken prematurely about that.

I'd actually react more positively to a lowering of the magic pool bonus to something like a 50% increase, rather than lowering the Pyro's health further...

THAT makes a bit more sense. Funny thing, originally it was a 50% increase, but I thought it was UP
Silly me

Nah, it's not underpowered, because for the magic regen to be balanced with the rate of fire from the flamethrower, you could probably conserver your ammo just by switching to the wand for a while.

If anything, the set bonus makes it actually kinda viable to run with two weapons that use the same ammo pool.

Primary still isn't as good as Degreaser

I would add a broomstick. It lets you fly and stuff. does half damage and uses magic power when flying. replaces melee.

Now this set can be used in Medieval :3

...like a rocket-jump like mechanic? Maybe... *sniff* ...maybe. I might add a melee item to the set, but I don't like the idea of taking four slots for a set.

Also, no one ever gives a flying jarate about Medieval. Ever. Medieval is a broken game where, in an odd twist of fate, Heavy isn't OP. But only just, mind you :P

I'm slightly confused on the staff. I keep thinking back to the old Heretic game with the single-shot fire wand. Is this a Flamethrower that uses a different ammo pool or are we now tossing fireballs around?

Regardless I am intrigued and wish to know more.

The Staff is a flamethrower, and the Wand is like a flaregun. However, they share the same ammo pool, called Magic, which will naturally regenerate over time or you can use ammo packs.

Ok...

The primary isn't as good as the degreaser's switch time, but the range might be kind of nice.

The secondary seems alright, but the alt-fire should be tied to something to prevent spamming. I suggest it depletes a considerable amount of magic or at least has a cooldown.

The Cloak....is that a melee item?

Set bonuses are evil. Don't use them.
