Favourite tracks

Recently purchased Race 07 and, on the advice of Kralj, obtained a copy of GTR2 as it has a really excellent and extensive driving tutorial.

I have been playing driving simulation games intermittently since Night Driver on the Atari (like Dirt 3's racing segments with slightly less 'eye candy' for those that haven't played Night Driver)and always found the genre to be amongst the most interesting and exhilirating of computer/console games. I was a fan of F1 many years ago and to be able to drive electronic reproductions of those tracks primarily through the Grand Prix series of games felt like an extraordinary opportunity to experience in some small way, what it might be like to drive these tracks.

When exploring GTR2 i discovered that my favourite track of all time - Spa-Francorchamps 2003 - was included on the roster. I absolutely love this track, it is the most visceral and extraordinary ride even on a computer using a 360 controller, where depth. speed and every physical sensation is imagined rather than directly experienced. What I had remembered most vividly was the Eau Rouge and Raidillon section on the start/finish straight but on replaying it last night for the first time in many years, I was struck by the beauty of the whole track - there are so many highlights throughout the circuit and it really makes many of the others I have driven feel, at nest, functional and uninspiring. Apart from the chicane and the hairpin towards the end of the track there appears to be no respite from its magisterial speed, inviting the driver to hypnotially follow its curves, I could wax lyrical for a while but the fact that I am currently 'driving' on Novice level grants me enough humility to cease at this point.

Perhaps other forum posters could say what some of their favourite race tracks are? Also, where is Spa for Race 07? It amazes me that any driving game would be without it, providing they could license it of course.

Really enjoying the Race 07 at the moment and it reminds me a little of the original TOCA (Knocknill was a terrific track) and looking forward to getting some online action if I can find any novice races that don't need passwords.

Spa exists, if not in the game, as a mod track.
Unfortunately, with Megaupload and similar file sharing sites being taken down, it might get tricky to find anything.
Try this one: http://www.drivingitalia.net/forum/i...s&showfile=285

Don't really play Race that much, and when I do, they are almost exclusively Mini races. Tracks that I loved, and remember off the top of my head, are mostly mod tracks I raced in Minis:
Le Mas Du Clos
Sachsenring
Vitus
Mondello
Rouen les Essarts
Limerock

I would suggest joining an online racing community, that way you'll be racing against (mostly) committed and respectful racers.
Public racing can be... frustrating.

I personally spend my time at http://www.racedepartment.com
Someone else can provide links to their communities.

Thanks again Kralj - I followed the link and downloaded Spa and have been enjoying it thoroughly. Also found these BTCC tracks collected by some Russian enthusiasts and hope that this link works for anyone interested http://www.btcc.ru/dir/

Also tried to locate some of the tracks you mentioned but it is interesting and concerning how difficult it is to find links that can be downloaded without having to become a member or pay some sort of fee - particularly when the content is fan made and uploaded as freeware. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Wow, someone is asking money for downloading user created tracks? So wrong.

Mondello - https://rapidshare.com/files/3236833876/Mondello.7z
Sachsenring - http://www.mediafire.com/?evacj7di1193d20
Vitus - http://www.mediafire.com/?dqaco973bga2f4z
Le Mas Du Clos (might require registering) - http://www.nogripracing.com/files/ge...++PhilCout.rar

Register at NoGrip, you lose nothing, but get access to plenty of tracks there.

Bad timing I guess. racedepartment.com recently went through a website and forum upgrade, and have no download section at the moment. And now file sharing sites being taken down.

I just can't go past Marakesh, the feeling when you hold your nerve into the chicanes on the back straight is amazing
