FATAL ERROR Cannot initialize renderer

I just installed this game on my laptop - Dell XPS 17, CPU: i5 480M 2.67GHZ, 8GB RAM, 640GB HDD, GeForce GT 435M 1GB, Windows 7 64B.
When I try to start the game I get a Fatal Error unable to initialize renderer. Every place I have gone says I should be able to play with my specs.
Any ideas on how to fix this out there?

First step would be to verify the game cache.

right click the game in your library>properties>local files>verify game cache.
