I don't get it. You want to keep a 150 HP healthpack for yourself, for a class with the highest HP and with one of the highest close up DPS?
Call me insane then, but the only downside a heavy has then is being slow :/ |

A balanced nerf would be to make a dropped sandvich heal 90hp instead of 150hp. Removing it completely? That would make sandvich close to useless.

Good Heavies will still heal their Medics and other team-mates to keep them alive, they will also know when and when not to take a munch on the Sandvich, whilst the bad ones that throw their Sandviches on the floor two centimetres from their feet, whilst facing down upwards of four enemies when he should have died already will finally suffer now. Now the Heavy will actually have to put some thought into how he's going to approach fights again without his portable medium health kit and putting himself in too much danger. The Medic regains some more use, good players prosper, bad players don't. Everyone wins. Unless you're the bad player, in which case that's why you're most likely whining as I already said. Personally i always think the sandvich drop was a cheap tactic (And i admit i've used it every now and then) So i'm totally in favor of the nerf, so it becomes the team tactic it was always supposed to be.

No. I'm tired of getting close to blasting a Heavy to bits before he suddenly regains most of his health and proceeds to riddle my overhealed body with bullets, instantly.
I do not support you or anyone like you, OP. |

What will spuf have to cry about when these nerfs come? Hmm? Valve needs to stop submitting to the vocal minority.

I've been playing TF2 almost daily since 2007.
This nerf makes sense. And buffs the steak. |

In response to just about all of you:
You're all terrible at the game. If dealing with a heavy with no gun out while he throws a sandvich out is such a big problem for you. You're terrible at the game. It's called flanking. It's called peaking around the corner, firing two rockets, and getting behind cover again. Rinse and repeat. I'd like to see the Sandvich charge up fast enough to be able to compensate for the damage output of any class while he's waiting on his next Sandvich. You're all making out as though he could chuck these things out every 5 seconds. Oh, and as for the guy who said it's recieved nothing but buffs since its release? You used to be able to keep using the Sandvich to your hearts content, and then it was nerfed. Quote:
I'd like to refer back to a 2008 blog post in which they said the upcoming Heavy update was to make the heavy more reliable on his own. Natascha? Nerfed. Fair enough, but its damn well useless now. Sandvich? To be nerfed. Whats next? KGB being knocked down to mini-crits on kill? Pfft, enjoy your Sodapopper and Liberty launchers. Just know that you're supporting the idea of killing off the game's older weapons. Last edited by IRA625: 01-28-2012 at 05:13 AM. |

The Sandvich was designed as a sidegrade to the shotgun, back when it only healed the Heavy and not his teammates, The Heavy actually relied on his shotgun from time to time. The pre-buff Heavy was a sort of mobile artillery of sorts, with absolutely massive game-altering power when supported by his team. His firepower while on the move, however, was minimal, but still useful in many situations (Try playing with the Brass Beast). Now, the Heavy has received both a spin time and movement while spun speed buff. His primary weapons are now much more viable for being ready to combat ambushing enemies rather than his shotgun, making the Sandvich's shadow over the shotgun all the more prominent. As time went on, the Sandvich underwent a number of changes. It has now turned into a mobile, instant 150 health for the Heavy and healing kit for his teammates, including the Medic he works so dearly with. Going back to my main point, the Heavy has become more independent of his team. He can now sustain himself quickly and comfortably, defend himself rapidly, and keep his one of his greatest assets alive: The Medic. What this particular nerf does is take away his ability to instantly heal himself, Meaning, the Heavy can no longer retreat, pull out his snack, throw it on the ground, then tear up his pursuers with a jump-rev. He can no longer go behind a corner for 2 seconds and return to battle with 150 or more HP. The result is a more team-oriented class rather than a do-it yourself master of head-on combat and area denial. Granted, the Heavy still has tremendous power, as he should, when supported well by his team. What he shouldn't have is the ability to support himself so quickly and easily. He has to think about his actions when by himself. The reason the Sandvich needed a nerf was that it took away one of the most crucial gameplay aspects and downsides of such an all-around powerful class. His reliance on his team to do what he can't for himself. Such as guarding the point while he takes a quick snack break, something that wasn't all that necessary when he could heal half of his health within a 2 second timeframe. |
