How competent is the AI?

Depends on the level of dificulty you set it at. The highest one they can be tough. They do bang into you often though

I know the AI dawdle on basic. More focused on extreme. I'm wondering how they compare to real world drivers.

Is the AI perhaps modelled on the playtesters or something

I'm not sure but I find that if you get ahead, they tend to catch up quickly. If you fall behind, they tend to slow down and let you catch up. They also seem to have blow outs or accidents when you are chasing them down.

It's not a simulation but I enjoy the game nonetheless.
