Limbo on Mac VERY blurry

I've been playing Limbo on my Macboook Pro via Steam and about halfway through I got stuck on a puzzle and so looked up a video walkthrough. Imagine my surprise to see that I wasn't supposed to be playing it through a fogged lens, that boxes were not supposed to be indistinct grey blurs and that those light grey tubes were actually ladders...

It's extremely problematic, and as the game progresses it's making it harder and harder to play. Is there any way I can fix this?
