This game was nothing but squandered potential.

No way to save, the game ends in about an hour or so, no way to "continue" beyond the captain's death, and the game world itself is limited and difficult. Online coop would have been icing on the proverbial cake. Being able to last as long as you could, trying to build a massive fleet and survive, would have been quite enjoyable. Not some artificial limit on gameplay.

The game is called "Flotilla", as in dozens or hundreds of ships. You're lucky if you can barely hold onto 6 before the game ends or you get zapped.

This could have really been a great and enjoyable game. Nope.

Seconded. I got about an hour into the game, was feeling pretty good after I took out a battleship and its two escorts with just two destroyers, then finally got up to four ships with some upgrades and was starting to really love the game - then it just ended.

I haven't been this disappointed with a game in a while. With almost no extra effort at all, this game could be about 10x better by simply allowing it to continue.

I actually read up and researched about this game before deciding not to buy it. The above mentioned reasons are pretty much why I didn't buy it on the daily deal. Seems like some poor design decisions that greatly limit what could have been an otherwise fairly decent game. I agree with calling it "squandered potential," if there was a lot more depth to the adventure, it could have been a great game.

For what this could have been like, imagine the Space Pirates and Zombies campaign, but with Flotilla's combat system...

try as I might, I cannot see WHY they would limit the game as such. Did they just not have enough artwork or encoded scenarios, and so made you recycle through them half a dozen times in short gameplays to see them all?

seriously, just an instance based/duel multiplayer would make it worth while.

The game is really, really cheap and it's loads of fun. I am genuinally baffled as to why so many people are hating it because of no save and limited turns.

I think this dev's third game "Atom Zombie Smasher" takes a lot of the same ideas (random events, short replayable campaign) and makes a much better game with them. I thought flotilla was pretty but it never really was that fun to me. The combat just got frustrating and repetitive pretty quickly.

I thought the terminal illness thing was a random event or something... (?)

I've finally gotten the hang of the game and was about to say it was my (no joke) all-time favorite game. Now what is a joke, is that someone could consider that stop-watch feature an improvement upon the game... or just got lazy and decided not to add more random events??

All in all, this has been an astoundingly large disappointment.

There really should just be an 'arcade' or something mode, but really? Why not just make it get exponentially harder?

Well, those are only part of it. The thing I hated the most was that the game was random, yet you need to get certain events in order to succeed in the game. That just seems like a bad design decision to me.
