Having some question about Free playing!

I just received message from RIFT that I can play Rift for free! So 5 month ago I bought rift in Steam. I had 1 month free playing. Now I can just download rift in my library, log in in my account and play for free? Also have question: My friend wants to play RIFT too for free, but he never had bought Rift in Steam before. Thanks and sorry for my bad English

They're following in WoW's footsteps. You can play for free as long as you want but you'll be capped at lvl 20, so its not the whole game.

Think of it as a neverending demo.

If your character is over level 20 it wont work, and I'm not sure if it's for existing accounts or new signups only.

Works with existing accounts. I went back to my old account last week to see what was new and it worked fine.

Just can't access my old characters over level 20.
