Should I sell Craft Hats or craft them?

I trade on TF2 when I'm bored, and I run across a lot of people willing to sell me any kind of craft hats for 1 refined (and yes I know price is at least 1.11+, but I actually craft hats, not say BUY craft hats than wear them)

While sometimes I get lucky and get 2 ref+ hats for a ref (Like Dragonborn Helmet and Villain's Veil), mostly i get the 1.33 ref-ish hats.

When I get the lower-valued hats, should I craft them or sell them at 1.33 for a profit of 1 reclaimed?

It's your choice. If you're the gambling type, craft them. If you want to stick on the safe side, trade them.

When I end up with a couple of hats that I don't want to deal with, I usually craft them together.

Does anyone know chances of getting a hat worth 2 ref+ from rebuilding hats? If it's relatively high, I'd craft!

And you could give me the hats you don't want to deal with :3

I don't know the exact percentage chance, but I feel like it's not high enough to make it an easy decision.

Well, really the only way to calculate the chance is to count all the craftable hats that have been released to date, separate out the "good" hats from the "bad" ones, then calculate the proportion. You also need to take into account the two bad hats you are using to craft since you can't get them back.

Generally it's a good idea to craft right after a new batch of hats have been released, as you have not only a higher chance to get better stuff, but also low craft #s.

I counted approximately 216 craftable hats/misc and in my opinion about 86 are worth 2 Ref+. So, thinking about those odds there is about a 40% chance your income will be profitable. So those odds aren't all the bad and besides the point crafting is always fun no matter what you get, right?

PS: These numbers and not exact so don't quote me on this.

I love crafting hats, I've gotten quite a few good hats/miscs from crafting (Brown Bomber, Whif of the Ol' Brimstone, Lvl. 13 Apparation's Aspect, etc) and also many, many Hot Doggers and Demo Fros. It's a gamble, and that's why I love it so much.

From what I'm getting at, the general consensus is to craft, but only during updates with new hats. I'll keep that in mind when the Kingdom of Amalur and that other game with promos whose name i forgot hats become craftable.

Thanks for the help! And sell me your craft hats at 1 ref a piece! :3

Not much of a better chance. It's not like there is a higher rate of new hats being crafted. You just have a chance at something new.

I crafted 12 hats right after the medic update. Got a bunch of old crap. Nothing new, no craft numbers.
Last update I crafted 3, got decent stuff but nothing brand new, no craft #'s...

In fact everytme and update adds any hats/misc to the game your chances of getting the new stuff goes down (more hats = less percent chance at any particular one)
